The Two Princes | Chapter 7

~4 years later~

~Zak's POV~

I shoot out of my bed. Today's the day, Today's the day I will see Darryl again. I run to the bathroom to get ready. I'm gonna be late, he'll be here any minute!

I run down the stairs, and out the door. I make it just in time to see all the carriages arrive.

I look around to see if I can spot a black and red carriage with yellow swirls. Once I spotted it, I see Darryl getting out. "Wow..he's so handso-" I think, stopping myself as I see him grab a hand of a girl around our age, and help her out.

~3 years earlier~

~Darryl's POV~

"Yo, Darryl. I found a girl for you, she's willing to date you." My friend Noah says, pointing to a blonde haired girl across the room. "She's all yours bro"

"Oh I- I don't really know if I want a girlfriend" I say, whispering.

Unfortunately, he heard me. "Come on dude, your father will be disappointed if you came home without one. Now's your chance!"

"I guess you're right" I say, sighing. "Besides, I know I'm not getting one on my own. Thanks Noah." I say, walking over to the blonde haired girl.

"Hey, I guess my friend is um- hooking us up?" I say, avoiding eye contact.

"Yes he is. But first, we should get to know each other. Hi my names Jenna, and I know your's is Darryl."

"Nice to meet you Jenna" I say, shaking her hand. "Soooo, wanna go hang out somewhere?"

"Sure! Let's go to the park.

We spend a few hours together, she doesn't seem that bad, I guess I'll just date her, my father will be proud!

"So, Jenna. Do you wanna be my girlfriend?"

"Of course!" She says, giving me a giant hug.

~Present time~

~Zak's POV~

"Oh that's cool, he got a gir-girlfriend" I say, not even bothered to run up to him anymore. I feel like my heart just shattered into a million pieces. I guess I'll greet him at the royal party tonight, alone.

I walk back into the castle and immediately head to my room. The person I loved- is now in love with someone else. Why did I let myself fall in love this much? I knew he would never love me back, I'm so stupid for thinking I had a chance.

I start getting ready for the royal party a few hours later. Before I know it, I'm in the carriage with my family heading to the party.

"Are you ready for our royal dance Zakie?" My "girlfriend" asks me.

"Uhhh- yeah I'm ready" I say, facing the other direction.

We arrive to the party around 15 minutes later. There's a decent amount of people already there, and still more showing up.

I walk in, and start greeting people. My main focus is trying to find Darryl. I go through crowds of people until I spot him. He's wearing a red and black cloak cape, and god, he still has those magical green eyes. I see he's alone and run up to him. I can't stop myself in time and accidentally bump into him, our faces both turning visibly red.

~3rd person POV~

"Z-zak?" Darryl stutters, not believing this was real.

"Darryl! I missed you so much!" Zak says, embracing him into a hug. Darryl hugs back, and then they let go.

"I have someone for you to meet, stay right here" Darryl says, walking off. He comes back with the girl Zak had seen earlier.

"This is my girlfriend, Jenna." Darryl says while holding her hand

"It's nice to meet you" Zak says, shaking her hand.

"Well, I'll catch you later Zak, bye!" Darryl walks off with Jenna, leaving Zak alone.

~Zak's POV~

What am I gonna do what am I gonna do what am I gonna do. I can't get over my feelings for Darryl. If only that stupid girl wasn't in the way, I would've had the perfect night with him. I doubt he still thinks of me as his best friend. If only I could get his attention...

Wait..

Get his attention...

That's it!

I immediately search for Darryl. I spot him across the crowd and shove through everyone.

"Hey, watch it kid"

"Ugh, manners!"

"Go around the crowd not through it!"

I eventually reach to where they are at, but keep behind some people so they can't see me.

"This is stupid I'm literally stalking them. I'm just gonna go try to make conversation with them." I think to myself, walking over to their spot.

"Heeeeey guys" I say in an annoying tone

"Hi Zak. What do you need?" Darryl replies

"I- uh, wanted to talk to you guys, that's all."

"Okay then, Zak, but I'm sorta busy right now. We can talk later" Darryl says, which breaks my heart.

I begin following them EVERYWHERE, besides when I see my own girlfriend, I have to stop to talk to her. Then I continue on my journey to try and get the attention I deserve!

Eventually, Darryl pulls me to the side. "Come here Zak. Jenna stay right here."

I follow Darryl into the bathroom. He closes the door then starts.

"Zak, why do you keep following me? My girlfriend and I are trying to have some time alone"

"Because I need love and attention!" I say, quite louder than intended. "You're always spending time with that stupid girl now, did you forget about us? Did you forget about our promise, to never forget each other. Well, it seems like you forget who I am. You forgot about our friendship..our love" I say, starting to cry. I can't hold back the tears. Here I am, a 20 year old crying because I lost my best friend.

"Zak....listen"
