"Happy birthday, Kaley, how old are you?!" A group of us song over her while in the dining room of our home that was decorated in party decor.
"13."
"How old are youu?" We repeated as she answered with the same numbers that were on the birthday candles of her Justin Bieber cake before cutting into the chocolate treat.
"I get you this." Cayvon handed her a tiny gift box then they hugged.
"This is so cute..." She held up the kitten charm bracelet.
"It says 'meow'." He smiled as I lifted him into my arms.
"Girl, if you don't put that big boy down now he can walk beside you need to be saving all that extra strength for the new baby." Mom said.
I rubbed a hand over my growing belly.
"That won't be until a few months right now I want to enjoy my first babies." I kissed Cayvon chubby cheek then placed a hand on Kayley's shoulder.
"My gift?" She questioned.
"Oh! Yeah."
She ripped right through the wrapping paper and her expression softened "skates, mom really?"
"Haven't you been asking for them since last year?" I recalled.
"Yeah, when I was 12, I'm 13 now." She responded then crossed her arms as my mother gave her another gift.
"Look who's here? Your fave auntie!!!"
"Evelyn!" Kaley raced towards her as they hugged "did you bring me something?"
"Oh! Nothing... just 2 tickets to Justin Bieber's upcoming concert." She waved the tickets out as Kaley's mouth widened I'm sure I saw some drool falling as well.
"Oh my God! Auntie Eve, you're the best." She squealed "look at what Auntie Eve got me."
"Really, Evelyn, who's gonna drive her to a concert?" I questioned.
"I will." Hugh walked in with bags.
"Did you get me anything?" Kaley rushed toward him. He handed her a polka dot gift bag as she pulled out a laptop and a new phone "it's the new iPhone. Thank you."
"Is that all the gifts?"
"Looks like there's one more over here." Mom gestured toward the dining room table.
"Who is it from?"
"Javonte." just the mention of his name brought back memories.
"Daddy." Kaley grinned then took the present. It was a Black baby doll along with accessories that went along with it. She closely examined it then dug through the bag again pulling out a jewelry box and a card that read: Happy Birthday baby girl. I'll be getting out next week, can't wait to see you. Love, daddy.
