Challenges

Ally opened her dorm room and walked in - one bed had already been personalised ( the middle bed ) so Alex had the choice of two others .

Just when Ally was about to choose a bed ,a girl with curly hair bursted in " am I late ?"

I smiled at her " late for what ? If it's picking out a bed , I don't care what bed I just wanna have some sleep because i love sleep " Ally said giggling with her
"My names Alex but I prefer ally you can call me whatever you want - I'm taking the equestrian course, you ?"

" hi , I'm Maddy - you can call me anything- my parents call me mads coz I'm A little crazy ! I'm taking that as well but also sport and biology , I wanna be phisio  therapist!" She told her grinning
" I'll take the bunk bed if you don't mind ale" she added

Ally shook her head " not at all , I'll take this one - on one condition - you have to help me pack and I'll help you mads" Ally  told her throwing her bag onto her bed

Maddy nodded and shook her hand in agreement

Earlier that morning

Hannah ,with a slight smile, mounted her horse nurina .she picked up her reins and gentley squeezed her up into her hand

She smiled at her partner who had done everything above what she expected. This would be a good day to jump !

" okay quick cross pole and then I'll make up a course , yes ?" The yards inductor Marcus asked . Marcus was very mysterious yet very trustworthy. No one had new where he came from but he was one of the best teachers here

Hannah with ease only had to step over the cross , her black Arab cross TB could do anything for her and she did.
Hannah, after a quick chat with Marcus , lightly pressed in her spur-on heels sending nurina forward as she sprung into a collected canter . Hannah's hands moved with her horse as she jumped over the ozer and forwards to the double

Nerina 's ears flickered towards the field where a girl got out a Kia car started to watch with her arms by her side , her eyes filled with awe. Hannah scoffed 'great' with frustration , a distraction is all they'd need . Hannah kicked nerina with spur and not heal in panic, the jump was coming up close, her ears when flat back . Hannah lifted her hand ( the one with a crop in it ) and smacked her behind her leg .

Smack with the whip . Kick with the spur . Repeat. Smack with the whip . Kick with the spur . Repeat.

" stop fiddling with her , don't rush her either ! Let her jump to her natural stride " Marcus shouted over the howling wind.The pair was heading too fast over the combo ; they wasn't going to make it !

Before she new it Hannah woke up , her face wet with a liquid of warm  redness , her vision fuzzy .  her horse trotting away in the distance. Ms tuck and Marcus running towards her , she tried to hold in her tears but it was like trying to contain the ocean. It was impossible

" oh get up child ! You are not dead , bend your leg . Three . Two . One . Jump " Mrs tuck harshly commanded as she threw Hannah back on the trembling nerina " go again "

Hannah once finished to mrs tucks standards dismounted then ran away , throwing the reins at one of the grooms as she jogged to the gait ,desperately trying to escape to her dorm room 5:009 that she had already personalised

Once inside she removed her black boots and changed into her Aztec diamond outfit and her new clean fresh country yard boots that she had just purchased at the saddlery;after she dried her eyes she had the chance to top her make up and brush her hair

Hannah flopped on the bed briefly. She looked threw her draws and found a picture of nurina and her ; she smiled and after giving it a meaningful hug she shoved it under her pillow .there was something else under there too though, but she didn't dare to open it . It was her secret . A secret she would never want to recover

she grabbed her room key and access card and left with one single mascara filled tear down her eye ,her roommates wasn't expected until a couple of hours and to her , it was the perfect time for a smoothie

Alex's pov

After a couple of hours of hard solid packing and decorating we was finished and decided to go check out the sweet shops - I was amazed about how many skittles and smarties there was !!!
We sat down for a bit talking ; mostly about my past and occasionally about her future and when we where done we made an easy for her decision: to head to the stables

Every step I took towards the barn I felt a pang of nerves but I didn't wanna disappoint Maddy , I was her friend and I had to do stuff even if I didn't wanna do it , and if that means going to a stable full of quality horses that's what I'd do !

The stable it's self was impressive , but the horses were beyond amazing!! Horses every side of the isles was either thoroughbreds , warmbloods , sport horses or  the finest quarter horses , there well groomed and muscled faces peering over their doors

" this is Romeo, he's full name is blow a kiss . He's a right loverboy , such a gentle gentleman  gelding and quite a lady's man if I do be so bold  " Maddy  said giving a red roan a pat " I do reining on him , he's a champ !"

She signaled me to follow her and so I did . She led me to a beautiful palomino stallion who had white socks and a blaze " this is gold star aka buzzer . He's a real prize winner but he's new ... I dont ride him much , only occasionally- he's a English all rounder but I'm not to keen on him - he's a right mare! Spoilt arnt ya boy" she told me sadly while putting her hand stretched out over his stall for him to come over , but he didn't. He only gave her a dismissive glance then carried on munching on his hay net. We all knew what he was thinking, he knew that he was better than her , than us , and he wasn't wrong

I smiled " your so lucky!"
And she looked at me guilty " sorry , I didn't mean to..."

I shook my head " why don't you show me around ? You said your sister used to ride her ?"

" a tour of the barn sounds great, I know this place like the back of my hand ....."

In the barn above the stalls , the horses had there very own tack / feed room above them with a stair case on either end of the isle and a key card slot so that only owners can access them this is what I found very helpful and perhaps useful if I had a horse..

The corridor between each stall was long and cushioned carpet like walkway. The roof was covered in chandeliers and it wasn't hard to find a groom since there wasn't an inch of the stable that wasn't covered in them

Me and maddy made our way back to our room arm in arm wondering about who the other dorm partner was and how she is  unaware of that she may be doing the same

I unlocked the door with my card and stepped in to our twinkle light infested room : no one there ....

" look ! Muddy riding boots , they are some expensively posh boots , looks like someone has already been to the stable- she's a fellow equestrian too !!!lets investigate .... "Maddy told me delightedly as she smelt the boots for good measure
" and under her pillow is a pic of a horse , her horse? !!"

I looked at her bed , and felt under her pillows " the picture isn't all - there's an envelope?   Addressed to hanna  harncke , as in Matt harnacke the eventer ?!? "

Maddy took the letter from me excitedly " I'm gonna read it ..."

Just at that moment the door swung open and a girl with long straight black hair, head to toe in Aztec diamond , polished , perfect and pretty ( and a smoothie in her hand )
" what are you doing ?! Why the damm hell are you Snooping in my stuff?!?!" She snapped

Maddy dropped the letter as my face grew red

" sorry " we both said in unison
