I burst through my front door and run into my parents room.
I jumped onto their bed and curled up into a ball. Tears stream down my blotchy red face as I try to catch my breath. I breathe in the scent of my parents lingering on their pillows.
My thoughts stir. Why me. Why did they have to leave me. I love them so much it hurts thinking I won't see them again.
I thought that over time the pain would dull. That I would quit thinking my mom would poke her head through the door just to say I love you. That I would quit imagining the smell of cookies fresh out of the oven waiting for my when I came home. But it is still there.
I hear a knock at the front door and perk up.
I run into my room checking my face in the mirror. To put it bluntly I look like I got run over by a train. My face resembles a tomato and my hair is ready for the birds to move in.
I scramble for my concealer and spread it all over my face.
I look like a drag queen.
Dag nabbit. I toss my hair up in a messy bun and scurry down the stairs.
I open up the door only to reveal none other than Austin.
He is carrying some flowers from my next door neighbors house with dirt clinging to the roots. I chuckle a little bit and look up at his face. His worry lines are prominent and his face is twisted into a frown.
"I am so so so sorry...I understand if you never want to talk to me again I such a moron I.. gosh dang it its just my parents were on that flight and I recently found out and I I should have known.." Austin practically vomited out the words but one part caught my attention. His parents were on the flight as well.
I sort of was expecting that but how has he not known till now? That was about 7 years ago.
"How did you just find out?" I questioned extremely confused.
"I was adopted and my parents recently told me. They didn't meet my birth parents because they were teen parents and wanted to remain anonymous until I was 18. So on my 18th birthday I decided to do some digging but there wasnt that much information on it. There was only one news report of the accident happening and not much informatio to go along with it. The only helpful information that they orovided were the names of the people in the crash. In the list of names I happened to see your parents names. I know it is crazy to assume that they were your parents but i have never seen them around and i want to know what really happened. So I thought you might have the answers I need. But I clearly didn't think it through that well because it is a sensitive topic and I just threw it on you."
"Its fine Austin it really is it was just so unexpected and i just was so overwhelmed of how quick everything was happening I just kind of shut down."
I paused and took in a sharp breath
"Come on in and i will tell you what really happened on flight 5683 "
