the next day... 10:12 am.

This late morning I awoke to, one that where the rest of the world was already awake. I came up from my covers abnormally weak. The strain in my aching muscles riled a sharp hissing groan out of me. What occurred in those early hours hung over me with an imposing glare, taunting me with mystery and fear.

But as I get moving, gaining momentum moving through the bedroom in my edgy state; I sucked in my grunts of pain and continued to face the day with the hope feeling better once I got to work at the cafe.

I walk on slow and steady feet to the living room of my small apartment, the TV was left on playing some cringe-worthy car dealership advertisement with nobody to watch it for Kina and Asher had already left the apartment. The blankets and pyjamas they borrowed were folded up neatly on the couch.

I offhandedly thought about their schedules for the day, once again seeing how busy the two were getting.

Kina was set to have another full day of hard work being out into her new device that measures the patterns of brainwaves of the people in your general area. She confided in Asher and I that this technology was rather abstract and would need a lot of research for it to be developed into production as the creation was essentially ahead of its time. So we decided to be her test guinea pigs, and she would be designing some kind of 'detector' for us to try out.

Asher, on the other hand, was hell-bent on her studies and probably annoying her veterinary professor with a question every five minutes. It was very admirable to witness her enthusiasm for studying, she cares so much about animals that she wants to make sure she knows everything about their care before entering the workforce. I only hope she isn't locking herself in her dorm room again.

As I enter the kitchen and start seeing my messily raided cupboards, the note I left on the counter last night had a few extra words underneath my message...

We left you early so you could sleep in, we both agreed to have afternoon coffee at Lelita's so see you there our favourite sexy waitress ;)

- From Kina and Asher

PS: Sorry about the mess!

I grabbed out some of my favourite breakfast items from what was scattered around the place, sighing into laughter when seeing the display of snack wrappers littered all over the preparation area. "What lovely friends I have..." I say, deciding to take out my phone and send the two a photo of the mess they created within my apartment.

With that done, I finally settled on a bowl with healthy amounts of vibrant fruits, vanilla yogurt and some oats thrown into an aesthetically pleasing mix.

Throughout this all...I was yet to notice the TV until a certain news story caught my attention.

Exclusive story: Hybrids sightings have been reported to be closer to the city than ever before with the latest sighting occurring only just last night on the outskirts of the city's northern suburb of Mikesh...

My heart started beating heavily against my chest and I felt so uneasy that I almost dropped my bowl in hand... Mikesh wasn't too far from my suburb of Wagani-May...

...Reports are coming in that the NSA are releasing some unconfirmed hypothesises as to why hybrids are getting so close to human contact. As well as some advice on how to act in a situation in which a Hybrid approaches you or in the event of another sighting.

Here is a short clip of a former NSA Founder Dr Francis Levine sharing some of that information today, and claims the NSA may not be revealing enough on the situation...

The news screen cut to a thinly mustached older man with freckle spotted tan skin and round golden spectacles on his small hazel eyes.

"I believe one of the reasons these Hybrids are visiting human communities is because they are suffering a crisis of identity and have more than likely been observing the world between humans and animals to see where they fit in...the NSA regards these beings as nothing but wild animals, although they can take human form; this is highly counter-productive and I hope the broader scientific community answers to the public as soon as possible with any new development-"

I switch off the television, a black screen with a faint reflection of myself staring back at me. This new silence that filled the apartment was grueling, the emptiness of it all had never been so prevalent until now. The answer I was looking for was glaring, the same color as the haunting shifting form that approached me in the parklands.

A Hybrid.
