Ira closed her eyes, and immediately they fluttered open again. She couldn't sleep, at least not knowing the fact that she was a GODDESS. I mean, who could?
Suddenly, Ira sat up. Wait. She thought. If I'm a goddess...doesn't that mean that I can control that specific element!? But then again, ice isn't an element...but it's worth a try.
Ira slipped out of bed and tiptoed out of her room, down the stairs, and into the kitchen. But before she could get any farther, someone touched her shoulder.
She screamed and turned around. As soon as she saw who it was, she let out a sigh of relief. It was Mrs. Thomson.
"Shh, honey!" She brought her pointer finger to her lips. "You'll wake up your father!"
"Mom? What are you doing up so late?"
"The better question is, what are YOU doing up so late? It's 1 AM! You have school tomorrow!" Mrs. Thomson put her hands on her hips. "I have to go pick up Mrs. Wilson's dog from the groomer, remember?"
Right. Ira thought. Mrs. Wilson's away for 3 months, and WE have to take care of her HUGE dog. White type of groomer expects the dog to be picked up at one in the morning, though!?
Mrs. Thomson sighed, then winked at me. "I guess you can stay up for half an hour. You're growing up, anyway. You should have some freedom. But if your father asks, I never saw you."
Ira smiled, then hugged her. "Thanks, Mom!"
Ira runs to the door, slips on her shoes, and pulls open the door. She glances back at her mom, "I won't be long. I just need to check on something."
"I'm trusting you to go back to sleep afterward, honey." Mrs. Thomson smiles warmly, and Ira nods. She steps outside, closing the door behind her.

Ira tiptoed into the backyard, her shoes faintly squeaking with every step. It was almost midnight, and it was pitch black outside. However, Ira could slightly see the trail of the hose, following it to the faucet. She turned the handle, and she heard the sound of water rushing through the pipe, all the way to the end. She tiptoed to the end of the hose and raised it.
"OK." She said calmly. "Here goes nothing."
Ira concentrated on the water flowing out of the hose, and onto the ground. She closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, her eyes swirled and sparkled with snowflakes. The water slowly started to freeze, until it froze completely, making the pipe stiff and heavier.
The snowflakes left her eyes, and she gasped. I did it! She thought excitedly, her heart beating fast. I froze water!
Amazed by her own abilities, Ira walked back to the front of her house and opened the door. She slipped off her shoes and tiptoed back up the steps and into her room. Mr. Thomson was snoring in the other room.
I can't believe it! Ira thought. I actually. Froze. Water. By just thinking about it!
Ira curled up in her blanket and closed her eyes. This time, she fell asleep. Little did she know that that was the last time she would sleep in her comfy little bed for a long time.
