The Horrible Move?

I'm Catherine Leah Santose and I just moved from sunny California to a small town in Ohio. My parents decided that we needed a change of scenery, so we packed up our amazing house in Malibu and are moving to the small town of Athens. And I do not mean Athens, Greece. I'm talking about Athens, Ohio! Where everyone has grown up together and have known one another since birth. Anyways, let's get on with the story.

"Move Cinthiah," my little brother Conner says. Conner is eleven, while Cinthiah and I are sixteen.

"Shut up, Conny," Cindy says back.

I roll my eyes at their obnoxious behavior and turn to my father, who is driving. "Dad, can you please tell them to just get along," I beg him.

"Guys, I know this move has been hard on y'all, but it's good for your mother and I. Please just start getting along. This will be a fresh, new start for all of us," Dad yells.

I smile to myself at his words. I can always count on my dad to get the job done. I'm technically the oldest, but they still don't pay attention to what I say. I'm always stuck being the responsible one and they just make me so angry. This move has made me lose my two best friends and the boy I have been crushing on since the third grade. Why is life so complicated?

"Shut up, Dad. Oh wait! Should I even call you that, considering Cathy and I are adopted," Cindy screams back at him.

"Cinthiah! Stop," I demand.

"Why are you acting like this Cindy," Conner asks her softly.

Conner was the only one that wasn't adopted and he doesn't really understand what Cindy and I have gone through.

"You really want to know why," she continues to yell. " It's all because of this stupid move!"

Dad pulls over and stops the car. He takes deep breathes and Mom turns around in the passenger seat to face us.

"Now listen here young lady. You might be adopted and upset about us having to move, but we are still your parents and we love you very much," my mother states.

Cinthiah looks down in shame. "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry Dad. I didn't mean any of what I said. I'm just really upset about the move because it's been really hard on me."

"It's okay sweetheart. I understand that this move has been really hard on all of you," he tells her, while looking at all of us.

I decide that it is my turn to speak up. "Hey Mom. When we get settled can Cindy and I go to the mall? I wanna get a feel for the place and just get out."

"Sure, that's fine. Do you want me to drop you off or stay with..." I cut her off before she can finish her sentence.

"That's okay! We'll be fine on our own. You should see the rest of the city."

"Okay then."

"Thanks Mom."

My dad pulls back into the road and we continue on to our new house. When we pull up in front of the house, I can say that I was surprised but thoroughly pleased. I thought that it would look like some farm house or something. It was like Cindy read my mind because she muttered, "Whoa", at the same time that I thought it.

"This place looks AWESOME," Conner exclaims.

"I know right," my mom says trying to sound hip.

The house was a faded blue-green color and looked like it had two, maybe three, stories.

"I'm going inside to call Janie and Mellisa," Cindy says as soon as she steps out of the car.

"Okay, but make it quick sweetie," Mom replies.

"Alright."

Cindy and I were adopted when we were three years old. I'm thirty minutes older than her, but she says that she doesn't care. We don't know why our biological parents gave us up, but it must have bee for a good reason because they left a note explaining that they loved us and that they didn't have a choice. I wish we could meet them one day, but they didn't leave any way to contact them.

"Cathy! Earth to Catherine," I hear someone say while I am being shook.

"Huh? What," I say coming out of my daze.

"Someone is staring at you from across the street," Conner says.

I look up and immediately lock eyes with this cute boy who looks around my age. He smiles when he notices that I have seen him and I can't help but smile back.

"Should I go say something," I ask Conner.

"I'm not sure," he replies with hesitation. "Maybe you should ask Mom and Dad first."

Just as he finishes his thought, the boy starts to walk over.

Once he makes it to us he stops and introduces himself. "Hey. I'm Leondre'."

"Nice to meet you. I'm Catherine and this is my little brother Conner," I reply while shaking his hand.

At this point, Cindy decides to grace us with her presence. "Oh my gosh! Cathy, you need to see how huge our room is..." she trails off as she sees Leondre'. "Oh hello."

"Hey. What's up? I'm Leondre'," he says while holding out his hand to shake hers.

"I'm Cinthiah," she replies in a flirty tone while taking his hand.

For some reason this angers me and sparks a wave of jealousy, but I push it down. I wonder where that came from. It's not like he's mine.

This is my first time writing in so long and I decided to return by writing a new book. Let me know if you like it or not
