Chapter 12 : You're the One

Okay, so I couldn't sleep.

I've been rolling around uncomfortably for what feels like hours. In reality, it was two, but that's still a lot.

I can't stop thinking about my revelation, and how I didn't realize before.

Jay's obviously the one who attacked me that night with the host, since they were buddies. Jay also started drinking immediately after we arrived, so that could be why he got so drunk. It is strange though, because earlier on in the night, I saw him with a girl with long black hair, so when did he go upstairs?

And why oh why did he attack me? I didn't do anything. The cut above his eyebrow is where he was hit and maybe someone threw his unconscious body in the truck. It all makes sense.

I didn't want it to be true, it was highly unlikely. Then again, there were some coincidences.

The only sane thing to do right now is to confront him and see what I did to make him target me. It's not like I'm going to sleep anytime soon.

I nod at my idea and get out of bed. I march out of my room, straight to Jay's. I didn't bother knocking before I bust through the door.

"Was it you? Were you the one who attacked me at the party! You-you" I pull at my hair out of frustration.

"What the he*l are you talking about?" Jay sits up sluggishly and rubs his eye.

His response made me madder for some reason. "You and that stupid host are the ones who tried to attack me upstairs and scared me half to death."

"What the fu*k? You're being crazy!" He interjects, standing up.

"The pieces line up. You blacked out, woke up in a truck, maybe thrown into by someone. You have a cut above your eyebrow, and I punched someone in the face."

He put his hands up in surrender. "I would never put my hands on you or anyone for that matter. That wasn't me I swear on it."

I shake my head. "How can I be sure to believe you?"

He sighs and puts his finger on the bridge of his nose. "Listen to yourself. Do you really think I'd go out of my way to attack you?"

I huff in anger. "You don't always pass out when you black out. Who knows, maybe you're a mean drunk." I turn and march out of his room. The only thing on my mind is leaving.

I hear Jay following me. "Au-" He yells but then lowers his voice "Aubrey!" But I don't face him; I grip the door handle. "Just wait a minute."

I'm hesitant, I really don't want to listen to anything he has to say or look at him, so I don't know why I still turn around. When I look up at him, he looks apologetic.

He hesitates before he speaks. "We haven't known each other long, but it should be long enough for you to know that I would never hurt you. Calm down and think, I know you're upset." He reaches out and rubs my cheek.

"Please stop. Stop with all this. You're confusing me. You're either yelling or being too caring, why can't you just be normal towards me."

I avoid eye contact with Jay as he spoke. "I don't try to confuse you I- ugh. Look, I don't know who that was at the party but if I ever find him, I will make him regret even looking at you."

"You don't need to do anything." I mumble.

"Well obviously I do considering how upset you are right now." He argues.

I glare at Jay. "Look, you aren't my boyfriend or a brother, so you don't need to try and fix it. What's done is done, deal with the consequences."
