It was later the night.
Maya got Raven to sleep really early so she and Josh could talk about what to do next which neither actually had a clue about.
"I can't believe Shawn would actually do something like this."
Josh saw that Maya wasn't saying anything and knew he had to do something.
"You okay?" Josh asked.
"What would I have done if nothing of this had happened? Should I then have taken care of her alone?" Maya asked.
"I don't know. I don't know Maya," Josh said.
"How am I going to raise my sister?" Maya asked.
"We'll figure out a way," Josh said and saw a tear running over Maya's face.
Before she could say anything he pulled her close to him.
Neither knew what to do but Josh did know how to keep Maya calm.
It was actually really harder than with a normal girl being emotional.
With a normal girl you could tell her everything is going to be okay and that's it.
But with Maya it's more complicated.
She needs a bit more attention because of her father.
And now her mother and step-dad had always left her.
Why?
Why do people leave?
Maya exhaled as Josh held her.
That was the one and only time she could ever feel safe.
In his arms.
But she usually knew what to do when people leave.
Not this time.
"What am I going to do?" Maya asks.
"Well to start with you are going to take a nice, hot bath and go to bed," Josh said.
"And after that?" Maya asks.
"We'll take it from there. Just remember I won't let you do this on your own," Josh said.
"I know you won't. Thank you Josh. You're always there when I need you," Maya said.
