Chapter One: Chosing Characters

Lonnie opened the door. Her friends stormed in. She was overwhelmed with worried questions. 'Are you okay?' 'What happened?' 'What's wrong?' 'Is it bad?' 'An emergency?' 'Fire?' 'A zombie apocalypse?' Everyone looked at Doug. 'What?' 'You really read too many comic books, ' Evie said. She shook her head and turned back to Lonnie. 'Why do you texted us?'

Lonnie laughed. 'Thanks for your concern, but everything is alright. It's even better than that! As you guys may know, I am supposed to clean the arctic.' 'Then why are you here?' Chad interrupted her. 'Well, I was about to tell you that I found an old board game and it looks so fantastically cool!' 'A board game? You scared us that something happened to you and then you say you found a board game?' Mal groaned.

'Yes. But it looks so super cool! It's for 10 players and we are with 10! Please, will you guys play it with me?' she begged with puppy eyes. Evie put her arm around Lonnie's shoulders. 'Why not? I mean, we really need some team building!' 'I'm in!' Doug stood next to Evie. Ben smiled. 'Me too!' 'Me three!' Jane stood in between Ben and Lonnie. Carlos nodded. 'Well, I'm more a fan of video games, but okay.' Jay and Mal looked at each other. They nodded. 'We're in too, ' Mal spoke. 'I got nothing better to do, so I join you guys, ' Audrey said. Everyone looked at Chad. He sighed. 'Fine, fine.'

'Yes! Thanks, guys! This means so much to me! Oh yeah, Mal, could you spell another 5 chairs, please?' 'Sure!' Mal took her spellbook. 'Milk in a bottle, horse in a stable, I want 5 extra chairs at that table!' A few seconds later, 10 chairs appeared out of green smoke at the table. 'Okay, guys, take a seat!' Mal said proudly. She sat down. Ben sat next to her, followed by Doug, Evie, Jay, Carlos, Jane, Lonnie, Audrey, and Chad. They sat in a circle around the table. Lonnie opened the box and picked out 10 cards with characters. 'Guys, let's pick a character!'

Lonnie picked a card. It pictured an Asian looking girl with dark red hair and a black leather outfit. She had brown eyes and a few weapons. Lonnie read the card. 'Corona Killer: sneaky warrior. This looks like a cool character.' 'My turn.' Jane was next. She chose a card. A small girl with black hair with golden highlights in it was drawn on the card. She had beautiful blue eyes, a baby blue dress, pink heels, a golden flower crown, and golden wings. 'Emily Waterfall: fairy queen of the animals.'

'Good choice, Jane. Well, my turn, ' Carlos said as he picked a card. It showed a drawing of a boy with the head of a wolf. He had brown eyes and wore a black leather suit and shoes. 'Brady Moon: wolf with a golden heart. This looks nice, right, Dude?' Dude barked. He sat in Carlos' lap. Everyone giggled. Jay clapped. 'Okay, let's see.' Jay chose a card with a boy on it. He had long, dark brown hair with a bun. He wore a yellow leather suit and had yellow eyes and a bunch of muscles. 'Tyler Blackbone: strong as steel. Sounds good.'

'Okay then, my turn, ' Evie said. She chose a card too. It revealed the drawing of a beautiful girl with short, light blue hair and ice-blue eyes. She wore a dark red crop top, cargo shorts with a black belt, a choker, light brown boots, two brown bracelets, and black open-finger gloves. 'Lily Dragonfly: killer of men and protector of the dragons. Okay, that sounds just really cool. Doug, go ahead.' Doug chose a card. A small guy with green eyes and green hair was drawn on it. He wore a dark green leather outfit. He also had a green cape and looked mysterious. 'Veros Hill: small, but smart and good with flaw weapons. Kinda like me.'

'Yeah, yeah. My turn, ' Ben laughed. He held a card with a tall boy on it. He had black shoulder-length hair and soft green eyes. He had also a bunch of muscles and he wore a sleeveless brown hoodie and black leather pants and shoes. He had a pair of fingerless black gloves too. 'Billy Shotgun: a born shooter with force.' 'My turn, ' Mal said when she picked a card. It showed a girl with bright green eyes and purple hair. She looked a bit like Mal. She had two black horns on top of her head and black angel wings. She wore a long green dress and black boots. 'Omega Fiore: the powers of the night. I don't know why, but I wanna pick this one. Okay, who's next?'

'Me.' Audrey picked a card. It revealed a pretty girl with rose pink hair, black eyes, and a green with black and gold leather outfit. She held a rose. Audrey read the card too. 'Rosie Floral: she knows the secrets of nature. That sounds perfect!' 'Okay, always last, ' Chad sighed. He chose a card which showed a boy with bright blue eyes and light blonde hair. He wore a light blue shirt and black leather shorts and he had a backpack on his back. His golden shoes shined bright together with his wings. His skin was pale and he had pointed ears. 'Flo Grant: he knows the littlest corners of the forest. Seriously? An elf?'
