Jade POV:
I smiled back at him. I'm not sure why he winked at me, but I tried not to dwell on the action. I fought the urge to talk to him before class ended. I'm almost done with my part.
I felt someone shaking my shoulder softly.
"Jade, class is over," Chase informed me. What? My classmates were finished putting away their laptops and were walking to their next classroom. Oh shit.
"Uh, thanks," I smiled at him, feeling heat on my cheeks rising. Oh god, this is embarrassing.
"No problem. You would have done the same thing." He said, while putting his things away. I logged out of my account and started putting away my notebook.
"I'll meet you at lunch," I told chase while he was heading out of the classroom.
"See ya then, bye." He threw a peace sign before slipping away in the human traffic that is the hallway.
My next class is the gym. Ugh. I like the gym, but I don't like the uniforms they provide us. The shorts are meant to be on the knee, but there is only three sizes, small, medium and large.
But, for me the medium is small and the large is medium. The reason why it's like that is because I was born with thick thighs and a big butt. The sad thing about it it's that I can't burn it off with exercises because it's all muscle. Trust me, I tried for months and all I've done was get them bigger.
My tummy on the other hand, well it's gotten smaller, but it's still there. My small boobs are bigger than my stomach! 5 months of being healthier paid off. I lost 35 pounds.
I walked into the changing room and I opened a random locker. We can't have our own locker because there are so many people in school, so we temporarily use whatever is available.
There are 2 types of girls that change to their gym uniform. 1st type are the girls that are comfortable in their bodies and change out in the open, not caring if someone saw. 2nd type is girls like me, who change in the showers. I should feel more confident because I lost weight but I'm so shy. Nobody ever uses the shower, so it's fairly clean.
When I'm done changing, I put everything in the locker. These shorts are too short for my preference. They are almost mid thigh, almost. At least the shorts are black. The shirt is a pale yellow with the schools name: Wildcats High School.
I walked into the gym, most of the student are sitting on the floor, on their assigned spot.
I sat down, feeling the dirt on the floor. No matter how many times I come in the gym it always smells like rubber. Coach Hawthorn started to take the attendance. One by one she called out each student's name. She was interrupted by the phone that was next to the white bored. The phone is there so that the teachers can communicate with each other.
"Yeah she's here," she nodded, looking at my direction, "early release? Okay. Yeah. Mmhh. Thanks, bye," she hung up the phone. "Jade early release."
My heart dropped with dread. Oh no. I stood up and nodded my head. I glanced down at the students who looked at me with annoyance, wishing that it was them who could leave the gym.
"Give me the key when you head out," coach hawthorn told me, "have a nice day." She smiled.
"Thanks." I calmly walked to the door that separates the hallway and the gym. When I was out of sight I ran like it was no tomorrow.
Why did my mom wants me!? Was I in trouble? Oh fuck I have to call my boss. I fiddle with unlocking the door that lead to the lockers room while calling him.
"Mi Pueblo, how can I help you?" A girl ask.
"Hey this is Jade, may I speak to Jessie," I ask her while I was in gathering my things and changing without any thought.
"Hold on, let me get him for you." She said.
There was a small silence on the other side. "Hello Jade, this is Jessie.""Hey, I'm sorry but something came up, I can't come to work today. I'm soo sorry." I told him, feeling bad.
"Hey, don't worry. Your shift hasn't started yet, you're fine. I can find someone to fill your spot. Thank you for calling me to let me know, I appreciate that." Jessie assured me. I love how chill he is.
"Thank you soo much. I'll fill in those hours, I promise you. Okay I'm sorry I have to go now." I told him.
"I know you will, bye, Hopefully everything turns out for the better." He hung up. Okay so now I have to text Lisa.
Hey, I'm so sorry to bother you, but can you please to me favor? I texted her. Immediately she replied to me.
Yeah sure, what's up?
Can you please find a guy named chase and tell him that I can't work with him during lunch time. That I have early release, please. He's in our art class. Do you know him?
Chase? Yeah. Is he in our lunch?
Yeah he told me that he is.
Yeah I can do that. I gtg, teacher.
I'll bring her food, as a thank you. Thank god Lisa did me this favor. I need to get Chase's number so that way I won't bother Lisa. I finished changing. Now I have to hide my phone from Mom.
I also forgot to return the keys! I speed walk to the gym entrance and calmly walk toward Miss Hawthorn. I hand her the keys.
"Thanks." She told me.
"You're welcome!" I told her as I headed out. I ran to the main entrance once nobody saw me.
As I got closer, I started to walk and wipe the sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand. Calm down. I walk in and my mom was smiling at me.
"Hey hunny, what took you so long?" She asked me.
"I was at the gym, I changed out of my uniform." I told her, looking at the floor.
"That's okay sweetie," she gave me a quick hug, "thank you for calling her." She told the lady in the front desk, Mrs. Harper.
"Take Care." Mrs. Harper said while we headed out.
"What took you so fucking long. I waited like 20 minutes." Mom asked me as soon as left the school's main entrance.
"I think you called when the everybody was moving to the next classroom." I told her.
"Ugh. Whatever. Get in the car. I'm going out and I want the apartment to be clean. My friends and I are getting ready at the apartment. So hurry up." She told me while I got in the back seat. My mom's boyfriend was sitting on the passenger's seat.
"Hola Jade." He greeted me.
"Hola Fernando." I spoke to him in Spanish. He can only speak Spanish.
"¿Cómo estás?" He asked me. I fought the urge to roll my eyes. Leave me alone.
"Bien." I told him, looking out the window.
Mom started a conversation with him while we headed back to the apartment.
I hated the fact that she did this shit. She pulled me out of school so that the apartment can be clean for her and her friends. I cleaned the apartment last night. She basically told me to clean up her mess. She rarely does this. I wonder why.
