Chapter 9

Dante and I got into his vehicle, I looked over at him and all of his attention is focused on the road. "can I go to my apartment to get my things" I said, he nodded as he starts tapping his fingers on the steering wheel. "It was scary earlier, Paige." He quietly said before looking at me then quickly looking back at the road.

I was confused on what he meant but I just stayed quiet waiting for his response "it was scary to see those dangerous men walk up to us, I was scared for the first time in my life. I was scared of them hurting you and I didnt think about my actions, all I thought was I can not let them hurt you, if anyone hurts you I will not be able to live with myself cause I'm your bodyguard and you're important to me. So damn important to me" he said, he whispered the last part.

I didn't know what to say after that, the trip to my apartment wasn't awkward silence but it was just silence, thinking about those words and what they meant. We got to my apartment, "I'll hurry up" I said to Dante before getting out of his vehicle and walking into my apartment building, I noticed the door was slightly opened. I walked in to see a man standing there. "Your bodyguard isnt here to protect you" he said.

"You killed my parents and his sister, you sick idiot" I yelled and the man walked up to me, grabbed me by the neck and threw me. He got on top of me, a tear rolled down my face, he licked the tear of my face and I growled at him. "get the hell off of her" Dante yelled and ran after him, he pushed him off me, Dante pushed him on the ground and started punching his face.

I slowly stood up and turned around so I don't have to watch the violence happen behind me. Dante grabs my hand and we run out of the apartment to his car, we got into the car and he sped off. "We still have your new clothes from earlier, I'm sorry we couldn't get any from your apartment. I should've went in with you" Dante says while speeding onto the interstate.

Dante gives me his phone "call John, put him on the speaker. He's the first contact in there" he said while slowing down a bit, I went to the contacts and pressed John, it started to ring as soon as John answered, I put it on speaker. "A man was at Paige's apartment, he just attacked her"  Dante said while clenching the steering wheel.

"Damn it, is she okay?" John says, Dante looks at me with those worried eyes that makes my heart stop and i nodded. He smiled and looked back at the road. "she's good" he said, that smile makes me go crazy, I want to lean over and kiss him. "okay good, just head straight to where we are planned to go, destroy the phone after this. Stop at a gas station soon and make sure there is no tracking devices anywhere" John says before hanging up. Dante pulls over on the side of the road, he gets out and slams his phone on the ground. He repeatedly steps on his phone before searching on and in his vehicle.

"Okay, no tracking devices" he said as he gets back in and speeds off,  a few hours has passed and it's dark. We pull into a hotel parking lot, we get out and check into the hotel. We got into our room, Dante locked the door. I sat on the bed looking up at him, he sat down next to me. "I'm sorry for moving around a lot, its just that we need to protect you. I need to protect you" he said looking into my eyes.

I leaned forward and kissed his lips, he pulled away and shook his head. "I am in relationship with Marie, I actually really like her" Dante says before getting up and going to the bathroom. I sighed and laid back onto the bed, after sometime I finally fell asleep. In the morning, I woke up to see Dante looking at me. "okay lets go" Dante says before unlocking the door, I slowly got up and we walked out the hotel room to his car.

We got in and he drove for sometime before entering Washington, he looked into the rear view mirror to see a black vehicle driving behind him. "one of the bodyguards catched up to us" Dante chuckled while saying before the black vehicle speeds up and hits his car from the back. "fuck, I don't think that's them" Dante speeds up and drives faster, trying to get into the next town.

We pulled off into the nearest town and went into the nearest store. "I need a phone, where's the phone" Dante yelled at the cashier, the cashier takes us to the phone and Dante grabs one, he pays for it. "make sure no one walks thru that door, you are closed" Dante says in a deep voice at the cashier, she nods and walks to the door, she locks it and puts the closed sign on the door.

"What's happening" the cashier says in a very worried voice, I walked up to her and pulled her into a hug. "we can't really say but we need to be safe" I said as Dante talks to John on the phone. "No I don't know how they keep finding us" Dante yells at John over the phone, I let go of her and walk up to Dante with a worried look on my face.

"I do not like that look on your face Paige" Dante said in an angry tone, I took a deep breath, closed my eyes for a second before opening my eyes again and looking into his eyes. "this is a long shot but what if they put a tracking device in you" I said quietly. I heard John say "holy shit" Dante looks into my eyes and looks at the phone. "how do we know it's inside of me, John" Dante quietly says.

Dante puts the phone on the speaker and looks up to him "Paige, you have to cut Dante and put your hand in him to get the tracking device out. Stay on the phone with me while you do it" John calmly says, how does he sound so calm? I have to cut open his son and dig out a tracking device. "I can't" I whispered, Dante grabs my hand and looks in my eyes, he slowly nods. "it's okay, Paige" he whispers back.

"Be careful with my baby, I love him" Marie says, Dante slowly lets go of my hand and looks away. "okay, you need to get supplies" John says, I walk around the store looking for supplies, I found supplies and went back to hear Dante talking to Marie, he looks so happy talking to her. I sighed and walked up to him. "alright, got them" I said, Dante puts the phone down and he lays on the ground.

I kneel down and grab the knife, a tear rolls down my cheek. "You can do it, I'll be okay. It needs to be done" Dante says before closing his eyes, I started to cut his side where he got stabbed. "fuck" he groaned in pain, I stopped and I looked up at him. I finished cutting his side, I put a latex glove on and put two fingers in, I felt it and pulled it out. "I'll be damned, I have it in my hand" I said. I set it down, took the latex glove off and I stitched Dante up, putting a bandage over it.

"I'll be driving" I said. "good job, Paige. Get rid of that tracking device" John says before hanging up I repeatedly smashed the tracking device with my foot. I kneeled down and held out a hand for Dante, he grabbed it and I pulled him up. "thank you" I said before unlocking the door and walking Dante out the door towards the vehicle. I opened the passenger side for him, he got in and I closed the door.

I went around, got into the driver's side and started to speed off. "I'm so sorry" I said while speeding down the road. "don't" he whispered, I looked over at him and quickly looked back at the road.  After a few hours, I pulled into a motel parking lot, I got out and Dante got out, he started to limp towards the motel office. We booked a hotel room and went to our hotel room.

"I'm going to take a shower" Dante says before limping towards the bathroom, he shut the door, I sat on the bed, I started to hear struggling coming from the bathroom. I got up and knocked on the bathroom door. "I can't get undressed without it hurting" Dante says, I opened the door and went into the bathroom with him, I closed the door behind me.

I lifted his shirt up slowly and took it off, he takes a deep breath as my hand goes down to unbutton his pants, my eyes stay on his. "I'm sorry Marie" he whispered before smashing his lips on mine, we made out for a while before I pulled away. "I can't be with her when I'm in love with you" He whispers. I froze, he is in love with me.
