More Than my Twin

Chapter 8

*Coby POV*
Sitting right in front of me is my younger sister. But I don't know how that's possible. She is five years younger than me and Cory. She moved away after high school and a year later we got a call saying she was dead. Now she's back. Six years since we've heard about her death and she's back.
"Hi" I say
"Coby oh my gosh I've missed you so much" she says
She goes to hug me but I move. She frowns and sits back down.
"Why did you call me and not Cory" I ask
"Because" she says
"Caroline why are you here" I ask
"I heard about mom and dad" she says
"It's been three weeks" I say
"I came for your guys birthday" she says
"What that's in two days? Lies. You have been away for 7 years. For six of those years we thought you were dead. We were told that you died" I yell
People look at me then go back to what they were doing. I walk out and go to my car. Before I get in I feel a hand on my shoulder.
"What Tyler" I ask annoyed
"Get in my car. You are in no condition to drive yourself home." He says
"I'm not planning on going home" I say
"Let me take you to your brothers place" he says
"I don't want to go there either" I say
"Dude you need to go somewhere" he says
"Can you take me to chad's" I ask
"Yeah sure. Let's go" he says
We get in his car and he starts it up. He drives to Chad's and I get out.
"Hey I'm going to come and pick you up at 6:30 tomorrow morning and take you to breakfast before work so we can talk about this" he says
"Ok" I say
I go up to the door and knock. The door opens to reveal Chad. I walk in and see Tyler drive off.
"Who drove you here? Where is your car? Why are you here?" He ask
"Tyler drove me here because I went to meet up with someone and I got upset and angry and he didn't think I was in the right mindset to drive" I say
"What happened" he asked
"I don't really wanna talk about it right now. I just want to take a breather and I knew I could come here to do that" I say
"Alright. You up for some fifa" he asks
"Yeah" I say
We go to his living room and sit on the couch. He sets up the game then hands me a controller. We play until midnight and then head to bed. I go to the guest room and lay down. It takes awhile but I eventually fall asleep.

I'm woken up in the morning to my phone going off. I turn my alarm off and then grab some clothes from the dresser that I left here for times like this. I get a shower and then get dressed. I look at my phone and it's 6:25. I go downstairs and Chad is watching TV.
"Hey Chad I'm gonna be outfront. Ty is picking me up soon. We are going somewhere before work" I say
"Ok. See ya at DPHQ2" he says
I go outside and just as I'm about to sit down Tyler pulls up. I go to his car and get in.
"Hey how are you this morning" he asks
"Alright. You" I ask
"I'm good" he says
Silence falls between us as Tyler drives off. We pull up to a diner and go inside. We sit down and once we order we start talking again.
"So your sister showed up? Last time I saw her was two days before she left for college" Tyler says
"Yay. I forgot she was at the studio" I say
"How do you feel about her being back" he asks
"I'm confused. I don't know why she's back. I don't know if she faked her death. I don't know if it was just some random person that was buried in her spot" I say
"Maybe you should bring this up to Cory then you both go and see her" Tyler suggests
"I don't know. Cory knows how much her leaving effected me and he might overreact." I say
"Do you need me to come and be mediator" he asks
"Please? I can just play it off as us three going to dinner and then have Caroline meet us there so Cory will go" I say
"If that's what you want" he says
We finish up our breakfast then go to the restaurant. I get in my car and Tyler and I drive off. We arrive and I go to Cory's office while Tyler goes to his own. I go over to Cory and kiss his lips.
"Hey did you get done what you needed to do" he asks
"Yeah. Thanks. How was your night" I ask
"It was good. I just watched a few movies" he says
"Alright. Tyler wants us to go to dinner with him. You up for it" I ask
"What about the other two" he asks
"He wanted to talk to us about something" I say
"Ok. I'm up for it if you are" he says
"Yeah" I say
I give him another kiss and then go to my office. I pull my phone out and text Caroline.
Co-Hey you up to dinner tonight at 5:30
Ca-sure. Where
Co-Bobby's
Ca-Alright meet you there
I put my phone away and start working on stuff. I work on stuff until noon and then go out to the main area where the rest of the guys are.
"Thanks everyone for coming in on a Saturday." chad says
"You are welcome" we say
Everyone starts to head out and I follow Cory to his office.
"Hey what do we wanna do until Dinner tonight" I ask
"We could go play mini golf." He says
"Alright. Let's stop at your house first and drop our stuff off and then get a quick lunch before we head off again" I say
"Agreed" He says
We do just that then head over to mini golf.
"Coby are you sure you're okay? You didn't come out of your office at all" he says
"I'm fine. I just had some stuff to do." I say
"Coby you know I only worry about you because I love you" He says
"I know. I love you too. But sometimes it gets to much. The situation overwhelms me and then when you try to help I just get even more overwhelmed" I say
"I'm sorry" he says
We finish up mini golf and get some ice cream then I look at the time. It's 5.
"So we are meeting Tyler at Bobby's at 5:30. So we should head over there" I say
"Ok. You wanna drive or me" he asks
"You can drive" I say
We arrive at Bobby's and we go inside. We find a table and sit down. A few minutes later I see Tyler walk in and he sits near us. A few seconds later Caroline walks in and walks over to us.
"Hey Coby. Hey Cory" Caroline says
"Caroline. Is that you" Cory asks
"Yeah it's me" she says
"Wait Coby you knew about her coming" Cory asks
"Yeah. I invited her. I knew you wouldn't come if I told you it was her" I say
"Yeah you're right. I wouldn't" he says
He gets up and walks out. Tyler follows him.
"I'm sorry Coby" she says
"It's okay. I knew he was going to react this way. When he comes back in why don't you explain the truth behind your presence" I say
She nods and sits down where Cory was sitting, across from me.
*Cory POV*
Caroline. Caroline is really here. It can't be true. Why did Coby not tell me? As I'm pacing outside I run into something. I look up and see it's a someone.
"What do you want Tyler" I ask
"Your brother is worried about you" he says
"In the way of a brother or a boyfriend" I ask
"Both. Mostly brother." He says
"Yeah well I could care less right now. He went behind my back. He found out about Caroline but didn't tell me" I say
"That's because he didn't really know anything. She contacted him. He went and saw her and then stormed out. He asked you to come so that you guys could find out together. He didn't want to find out alone. He also didn't tell you because he knew you wouldn't want to go." He says
"Ugh. Why are you always right?" I ask
"Because" He says
"Whatever. You can go home now Tyler. We will be alright. Thank you for watching over him" I say
"Of course. See you both on Monday" he says
"Actually make it Tuesday. Monday we are going and celebrating" I say
"Oh yeah. Your birthdays are on Monday. Well have fun" he says
He leaves and I go back inside. I go to the table and sit next to Coby. I grab his hand under the table and rub the back of his hand with my thumb. I can feel him relax beside me after that assurance.
"So Caroline Why are you here" I ask
"Because I missed you guys." She says
"Where did you go? Who did we bury?" Coby asks
"It was an empty coffin. I didn't really die. It was sort of fake. And I've been hiding out in Maine" she says
"For seven years" I ask
"Yeah. After high school and when I left, I went to Maine. I fell in with a bad group of people. We did some stuff and I got addicted to alcohol and drugs. After three years of living like that I realized I was in the wrong so went to rehab. I'm now three and a half years clean. I came here because I missed you and to make things right before I leave again" she says
"Wait you're leaving" Coby asks
"Yeah" she says
"Caroline you can't do this" I say
"But I have to. I just want to say I'm sorry and I love you, but I must go. I have to meet up with some people and then I am going to Africa to do some work there and continue rehab some more" she says
"Bye" I say
I look at Coby and see that tears are running down his face. I kiss his forehead and brush the tears away. I look at Caroline and it looks like she's gonna say something.
"Stop. Just stop. You've upset him once already and now you're doing it again. Please just leave" I say
"Ok" she says
She walks out and Coby turns into me and cries. I rub his back gently hoping he calms down and he does. We sit at the table and eat our food and then we head out to my car. We get in and start heading home. However, halfway there we are stopped due to traffic. I look and see it is due to an accident.
"Coby stay here. I'm going to see if any other driver knows what's going on" I say
"Ok" he says
I get out and walk up a few cars to someone else who is standing outside their car.
"Do you happen to know what's going on" I ask
"Some lady in a car swerved and hit a car in the other lane. The impact was forceful and sent them both spinning. I don't know the outcome yet" he says
"Ok. Thanks" I say
I go back to the car and see Coby asleep. I get in and sit there. Eventually we start moving. As we go past the scene I notice the car that Caroline got in. It's part of the wreck. Once I get to a safe spot, I pull over and get out of the car. I walk toward the accident but get stopped by a police officer.
"You can't go over there" he says
"Was there someone named Caroline Cotton in the accident" I ask
"Yeah. Why" he asks
"She's my younger sister" I say
"I'm sorry son but she died on impact. She was drunk and hit another car. The force killed her." He says
"Drunk? She told me she was 3 and a half years clean" I say
"There were empty alcohol bottles in the car" he says
"Ok. Thank you" I say
I go back to the car and get in. I start it up and drive to DPHQ2. I pick Coby up and carry him inside. I lay him on the couch then I go to the gym. I grab a basketball and start shooting hoops. After a good hour I get tired and lay down on the couch next to Coby and drift off to sleep as well.
