"Is it just me or is Asher looking fine as hell today?" Allie sat beside Layla in English class and stared at her boyfriend, who was sitting beside Jordan from across the room.

"It's just you," Layla replied as she copied notes from the whiteboard. "Anyway, did you hear about the meme that your boyfriend made of Spencer? If I were him, I'd be horrified."

"He's just kidding obviously." Allie rolled her eyes at Layla who was being nonchalant about her feelings towards Spencer. "Asher and the boys do that to everyone on the team. Including Jordan and he's like perfect."

"Since when did Jordan become perfect?" Layla raised her eyebrows. "Details. Spill it now."

"There are no details about anything. It's like an all-knowing thing at this school. You're the nice one, I'm the cute one, JJ's the flirt, Olivia's the druggie, Asher is intimidating and Jordan's perfect."

"Why can't I be the cute one?" Layla poked her lower lip out and pouted.

Allie shrugged in response. "Because I'm not nice. And the rules of labeling is you have to switch. So you stay the nice one."

"Well you're also a bitch, so let's change your label to that."

Allie glared at her best friend and turned her attention to the whiteboard and started to write down the notes, but the English teacher, Mrs. Bench stood right in the way with her hands on her hips.

"So, as you all know, I'm making you all do a partnered English assignment that is due tomorrow." Mrs. Bench had said, but quickly got cut off when everyone started loudly chatting with each other and choosing their partners aloud.

Including Layla and Allie who had silently made eye contact with each other and winked. They didn't have to say anything. They were always partners with school projects.

"Before you horny little juveniles get any dirty ideas, I will be the ones to assign partners. There will be no switching partners of any kind. And yes when I said horny juveniles I meant JJ."

Everyone turned their attention to JJ, who was flirting with a short brunette with glasses, ignoring everyone Mrs. Bench was saying.

Mrs. Bench wasn't wrong. JJ would flirt with a plant if it was attractive. Allie had seen it happen.

Allie wasn't concerned that she would be paired up with a loser or anyone with a social status lower than her. Mrs. Bench loved her. Actually, all of her teachers loved her. So obviously she was going to be partnered up with Layla. There was no doubt about it.

Mrs. Bench pulled her clipboard off of her desk and pulled her pen out of her hair to check off the names on her checklist. "Asher and JJ."

"Ginny and Piper."

"Layla and Olivia."

If Allie had been drinking water, she would have to spit it out at that time. Mrs. Bench was the teacher who always let Allie get what she wanted. And right now she wanted Layla as her partner. She definitely didn't want boring Olivia as Layla's partner. Layla deserved better.

Allie looked to the back corner of the classroom, where Olivia was sitting alone. A shocked look was worn on Olivia's face, which slowly turned into a smile. The blonde swiveled her head to see what Olivia was smiling at and saw Layla giving a friendly wave.

Mrs. Bench had the audacity to put Allie's former and current best friends together for an English project. It's like she expected things to not go wrong.

Layla and Allie were always partners in every project they had done in their high school career. This was so unfair.

"Frankie and Syd."
