"Hero?" I ask the brown haired boy.
He looks up at me with red eyes. What is he doing here? How did he even get here?
He ignores me, and buries his face in his hands. "Are you okay?" I ask him.
He doesn't answer, instead he just groans. He is frozen, with his face still in his hands. What am I supposed to do with him? I can't just let him sit here. Maybe I should call his friend, what was his name, Alex?
I tap him on the shoulder but he doesn't flinch, he's passed out. I locate his jacket pocket to find his phone so I could call Alex. The pocket is empty so I decide to check his other pocket but there is nothing. Maybe I should just leave him here. I get up and walk back to my door and take one last look at him.
I can't just leave him here, I should find Alex. I put on the same white sneakers I wore and close my door behind me. I start to walk down the hall until I hear something rub against the wall. I look back to see Hero trying to lift himself up.
I quickly walk back and kneel down. "Um, are you okay?" I say again.
He looks at me in confusion, his eyes laced in red, "do I look okay to you?"
"I just..." I'm not sure what to say. All I am trying to do is help him, the least he could do is act civil. I ignore his mocking question, "what are you doing here?" I ask the rude boy.
He screws his eyes shut and rubs his head. "God, I don't know," he groans, "I was drunk and the last thing I remember was me wandering off."
And somehow he ended right in front of my home, what a coincidence. "Okay... Well, do you want to call your friends?"
He laughs, "those pricks? That's the last thing I want to do right now."
"So you plan on just sitting here for the rest of the night?"
He lets out an angry sigh, "why do you care?"
Where are his manners? I've tried being nice, but I'm done. I stand up, letting him sit there by himself and walk to my door.
"Wait!" He says quickly, but I ignore him. Why did I even bother in the first place?
I walk back into my apartment and slam the door behind me, locking it. I kick my shoes off and head straight back to my couch. I no longer feel tired due to the interruption, so I decide to turn on the TV. As I browse through the Netflix movies, I hear a knock on the door. I ignore it but obnoxious noise keeps coming.
I let out a frustrated sign and get up from my couch for which feels like the hundredth time today and walk towards the door. I swing it open and see nobody but the one and only, Hero.
"Good to see you again," I say, sarcasm evident in my tone.
He looks at me for a few seconds until he says, "sorry... for snapping at you," I raise my brow at him.
"Okay," I say before closing the door. He reaches his hand out on the door just before I shut it. "What do you want?" I raise my voice at him.
He pauses for a second looking surprised by my rude tone and honestly, I am too. "Can I uh," he rubs the back of his head, "do you have any water?"
"Seriously?" He comes here and disturbs my sleep, gives me attitude and he expect me to give him water?
"Please, my head is pounding," he softens his eyes.
I want to reject him but something about the pleading tone in his voice makes me do the complete opposite. "Fine," I say to him. He gives me a small smile in return.
I go into my kitchen and open the fridge grabbing a water bottle. I use my other hand to close it and then walk back to the door. "Here," I hand him the bottle.
"Thank you," he reaches for the cold water bottle and sits on the hard floor outside my door.
"So what do you plan on doing for the rest of the night if you're not going back to your friends?"
He chugs on the water so fast that it drips down his chin. He uses his hand to wipe it away, "I don't know. Maybe I'll just sit here for the rest of the night."
I laugh at his response, who in their right mind would want to sit on this hard floor for the rest of the night? "You don't have a car? You know, to get back home?"
"Why do you ask so many questions?"
"Why don't you ever answer them?" I say back.
He laughs, clearly amused. "I have a car, but I got a lift to the party. There's no point in going back there, they're all too drunk to drive me back home." He takes another big gulp of his water.
"That waters really good huh?" I say to brighten the mood.
"Delicious," he smiles. Not the type of smile you give to strangers you accidentally glance at but the type of smile where the corner of your eyes crease and your top row of teeth show.
"Well goodnight... what was it?" He adds.
"Josephine," I reply.
He chuckles to himself, "I'm joking, I remembered your name. How could I not? You made quite a scene earlier."
"A scene? All I asked was for you guys to be quiet."
"Yeah well, you're the talk of the party now."
"What? I didn't even do anything."
He laughs at me, once again. "Relax, we just don't have any Australians around here. And you just moved here too."
"How do you even know that?"
"It's obvious, if you were here earlier you would've made more noise complaints."
I cross my arms, so he's back to being rude now I see.
"Come on, are you always this sensitive?" He asks me.
"I'm not sensitive, and it's not my fault you guys were being loud." Maybe I am a little sensitive, but I won't let him think he is right.
"Fine, we were loud. You win." He gives in.
I give him a proud smile. "You're sure you want to be out here for the next, what, six hours?"
He lets out a loud exhale, "better here than the party."
How terrible could the party be if he would rather sit on this cold floor? I consider asking him about it but I don't want him teasing about how nosy I am.
"You could sleep on my couch," my mouth moves before my mind could catch up.
"Aren't you afraid I'll intrude your beauty sleep?" He jokes.
I roll my eyes at him, "you shouldn't stay out here. You could crash on my couch until the morning."
"Really?" He asks.
"Sure."
