The past week has been one of the best weeks of my life. I had fulfilled my promise to be a part of Fiore’s strongest guild; I’m a member of Fairy Tail! Everyone welcomed me with kind smiles and lots of hugs, which took awhile getting used to, since I’d been alone for quite some time now. All the guild members had already started treating me like family as well. ‘Ahh I could get used to this...’ I thought quietly to myself.

I was laying on a bed of long green grass, under the shade of a large tree with beautiful pink and red flowers. Taking this time to myself, I looked up at the blue sky and rested with my hands behind my head. As I unconsciously started looking for shapes in the clouds, I crossed my feet and decided to take advantage of the nice summer weather. Right when my eyes started closing to take a nap I heard someone yell, “Claire, are you over here?!” I recognized the voice but couldn’t think of who it belonged to.

Even though it’s been a week, I’m still having a small amount of trouble remembering everyone’s name. After I got my guild mark, Mira helped me get moved into my own place in Fairy Hills and I haven’t really gone back to the guild hall that much since.

“Ha! I found you!” I hear as I sit up and rest my back against the tree’s thick trunk. ‘I was just about to fall asleep too...’ “Yep, you found me!” was my reply as I smiled. Now that I sat up, I noticed who had apparently been looking for me. It was Lucy Heartfilia; I vaguely remember meeting her when I first arrived at the guild but hadn’t seen her since. She had blonde shoulder-length hair, and wore a blue and white tank top, blue skirt, and black flats. I also noticed that she had a ring of keys on a belt around her waist, accompanied by a curled up whip.

“Hi Lucy, what’s up?” She held out her hand when she reached me to help me stand. “Master was looking for you, so when you weren’t at your place I came looking for you.” Lucy was gasping for air in between each word so I figured she must’ve looked all over town for me. I took her hand in mine and started walking towards the guild. “We better get going then. I wonder what Master wants to see me about…” She shrugged and smiled at me as we walked, chatting about the different guild members until we arrived.

As we walked, I learned about many of the members and their magic. Lucy was a celestial spirit mage, which means that by using keys (the ones on her belt I assumed), she could summon celestial spirits to help her. There was also Gray, an ice make mage; he could make pretty much anything out of ice. Then, Mira and her younger siblings Elfman and Lisanna. They all used take over magic, which allows them to transform their bodies. The next member I learned about was Erza, or Titania, the requip mage. Erza can requip weapons and armor, and she is one of the most powerful wizards in Fairy Tail. As the list grew longer, my mind started to wander… until she mentioned the dragon slayers.

I’d known there were a few dragon slayers in the guild, but when Lucy told me about one in particular I stopped in my tracks. First, she mentioned Natsu, the fire dragon slayer. Then, Gajeel, the iron dragon slayer and Wendy, the sky dragon slayer. But, when she mentioned that there was a second generation lightning dragon slayer, my heart skipped a beat and my body immediately froze.

“Claire are you ok? What’s wrong?” I barely hear Lucy while she gently shakes my shoulders. “Oh I’m sorry Lucy, I’m ok.” was all I could manage to say. I hadn’t even thought about that night in the woods since I got to the guild, but the memory swiftly came back when I heard the word lightning. Could he be… no it can’t be. I’m not that lucky.’ After apologizing again to Lucy, we arrived at the guild.

“Master, I heard you were looking for me?” I say as I approach Makarov sitting on the bar talking to Mira. “Ahh yes, come with me.” He slid off the bar and started up the stairs to his office. When I shut his office door behind me, the small man asked, “Have you found a team yet Claire?” “A team?” At first I didn’t understand the question. “Yes, a team of guild members that you can go on jobs with.” Makarov slowly sat down in his chair while he waited for my reply. I lowered my head and quietly said, “No, I’m not in a team yet Master…” “Hmm I see.” was all he said which made me feel sad. I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to ask around the hall to join a team. “I have an idea.” My head snapped up as Makarov said this. “What is it Master?” I eagerly awaited his reply but he moved to the door.

“Erza can you come up please?” Makarov yelled out the door. In an instance the red-headed mage stood in the door frame, towering over our small master. “Yes, Master?” “Since Lisanna is working with Mira for awhile, I would like Claire to join your team.” I was shocked at this, my mouth was just hanging open. ‘I can’t believe he just said that, did he really just say that?!’ “Master are you sure? I’m the newest member of the guild, are you sure that putting me with the strongest team is a good idea?” I asked without thinking. ‘Shut up Claire, this is such an amazing opportunity to train!’ “Yes Claire, I’m sure” he chuckled, “this will give you time to increase your skills and strengthen your powers, plus you can learn the ropes of going out on jobs.” Master smiled up at me before taking my hand and leading me out of his office and towards Erza.

“Thank you so much Master! I really appreciate it and Erza, I promise I’ll do my best to stay out of the way and I won’t hold you, Lucy, Natsu, or Gray back!” She chuckles quietly, “Don’t worry about it, I’m sure your magic is just as strong as ours.” “Oh no, I don’t know about that…” I blushed furiously at that, I never could take compliments well. “By the way,” the Master started, “what magic do you use Claire?” I normally don’t tell anyone my magic because my foster mother told me people would want to hurt me someday because of it. However, I’m sure she would understand why I wouldn’t hide it from my newfound family. Plus, there were already others like me in Fairy Tail so that was reassuring. I looked at both Erza and Makarov, took a deep breath, put on my best smile to hide my nervousness, and said,

“I’m a first generation lightning dragon slayer!”
