Chapter 17

*Claire's POV*

Laxus started coughing and choking. I panicked and jumped up moving closer to him. "You said l-lightning?" he finally said. I sighed, "Yeah, is there something wrong with that?" I ask timidly, hoping I didn't do anything wrong. The way he reacted was not what I expected. "No, that's amazing Claire!" He thinks I'm amazing?! "R-really?" I had a huge smile on my face. He cleared his throat, "Yeah." He said quietly.

I could tell we had an audience now because of his small outburst of excited ness just now. *clink* I turned to see a chocolate milkshake on the bar in front of me. "Thanks Mira! You must've read my mind." She smiled knowingly, "Oh it wasn't me who read your mind." She winked and walked away. I turned to Laxus and raised an eyebrow while pointing my finger back at Mira, "I knew you wanted one and you didn't get one earlier so I ordered that for you."

*Timeskip*

It's been over a month since I joined the guild and about 2 weeks since the day Laxus hugged me. When I got home that night, Lucy, and pretty much the rest of the girls, we're waiting at Lucy's for me. Of course they asks me what happened and I was so happy about it, I blurted the whole thing out. Telling them everything was different for me so I was nervous but I was smiling the entire time. After that, hundreds of questions were thrown at me until everyone passed out on the floor of Lucy's bedroom. They'd all been trying to get me and Laxus alone, it finally worked and I got to hug him. It was amazing.

I'll have to admit, it was terribly embarassing but I was so happy that my friends were helping me out. Mostly, over the weeks after that, Laxus and I would small talk for awhile then go our seperate ways. However, one day changed all of that for the better.

*Flashback to 2 days ago*

*Claire's POV*

It was cold and there was a light rain outside. I looks out the window, debating on whether I should head to guild or not. I wonder if Laxus is there... The rain let up a little so I made up my mind to go to the guild. Laxus was the only thing on my mind.

However, when I was about 2/3 of the way there, it started down pouring out of nowhere. It was too late to turn back now so I kept going.

The raindrops were so cold stinging my skin with each drop. I was shivering like crazy, regretting my choice in clothes. My pace slowed and I began to feel numb. Then, I spotted the guild hall and tried to walk faster but I could barely feel my legs as a result of the ice cold October rain. Thankfully, I made it to the doors and used the last of my strength to push them open just enough for my body to slip inside.

As I held my arms close to my body, my eyes quickly scanned the hall until my gaze stopped on his gorgeous face. He locked his eyes on my now pale face and I saw something in his eyes that I never saw him express before; fear.

Laxus jolted up and hurriedly walked towards me. I felt my knees give out and he sprinted to me and caught my frail soaking wet body before I could hit the ground.

*Laxus' POV*

It had been raining all morning and I had business at the guild so I arrived before the foul weather started. The rain has lightened up for awhile but it started down pouring relentlessly again. Unlike any other day, I was sitting at a table near the doors and had my body facing the entrance. I wish Claire was here with me.

I had barely finished that thought when I saw the door slowly creep open and a figure slipped through. I was confused as to who it was at first because their soaking wet brown hair was plastered on their face. Their skin was dangerously pale and they had their arms crossed tightly against their chest. Then the person raised their head and through the thick hair, I saw the dark brown eyes that I loved so much.

I couldn’t move as I watched her look around the hall. But as soon as he eyes found mine, I felt a sudden pain in my chest and a wave of fear washed over me. Claire! Her knees began to shake and she lost her balance. I shot up from the table and sprinted towards her. I reached her just in time to catch her before she hit the ground.

All I could feel was coldness, Her skin was tinted a light blue and her eyes were half shut as I heard her slow breaths. I looked behind me and discovered that I was completely alone with Claire in my arms.

Setting her head on my lap, I shrugged off my large black fur-lined coat and wrapped it around her. Gently, I lifted her up and held her close to my chest. I brushed a thick strand of hair away from her face and touched her cheek with my calloused hand. What were you thinking Claire?!

Her eyes fluttered open and her brown orbs looked up at me. “Laxus” she breathed, “I’m so cold.” I wrapped my arms tighter around her and saw her face relax a little as she tried to get even closer to me.
