Chapter 3 - Awkward dinner
Remington's POV
Elodie had been part of our band for a few weeks and her bass playing really made a difference in our songs. She didn't even know her own talent and was such a sweet person too, so all of us loved spending time with her.
I'd been playing around with some lyrics recently and wanted Elodie to be there to help write the music so I popped next door to see if she was free to come over for rehearsal.
"Hey Mrs Richards, I just wanted to see if Elodie wanted to come round and practice," I smiled at her.
"Sorry love, her boyfriend's round for dinner. You can join us if you like. I cooked way too much casserole and I need someone to help eat it."
Initially my heart sank when I heard Elodie had a boyfriend, because since I'd met her a month ago, I may have developed a slight crush on my neighbour. But tonight might be fun still and I wanted to meet her boyfriend to see what he was like anyway, so I accepted her mum's offer and went inside.
"Steve this is Remington, our neighbour, Remington this is Steve, Elodie's boyfriend."
He was sitting next to Elodie, who looked unusually sad. She was always fairly shy but she looked different today. Steve looked like the epitome of every jock and football captain and douchebag I'd ever seen - I didn't like him.
"Nice to meet you, man," I extended my hand for him to shake. He looked me up and down and plastered a fake smile on his face before almost crushing my hand in his handshake.
"Hey Remington," Ryan smiled at me.
I took a seat next to him and said hello to Elodie who just gave me a weak smile. Weird. We all made small talk for a while, Elodie was still oddly quiet even when I tried to engage her in the conversation.
"You wanna come round tomorrow? I've got a great idea for a new song and need your help to write the music."
She went bright red and Steve turned to face her. She glanced at him before gulping and meeting my eyes.
"Erm, sorry I'm busy."
I nodded and brushed it off but I knew something was wrong.
"So you play in a band?" Steve asked, smirking.
"Yeah, so does Elodie. She's a great bass player."
Steve scoffed and glanced at his girlfriend.
"Elodie playing in a band? You've got to be joking? She never plays for anyone."Elodie looked like she wanted the earth to swallow her whole.
"Ryan will you help me clear the plates?"
Mrs Richards left the room and just the three of us remained.
"You actually like this punk?" Steve laughed to Elodie.
"Steve-"
"Woah dude, I'm trying to be nice," I told him.
"I don't want you hanging out with him anymore, yeah? Or playing in this stupid band."
Elodie opened her mouth to protest but then winced in pain and nodded at Steve. Did that dic-
"Who wants dessert?" Mrs Richards called happily, coming back into the room.
"Dinner was lovely thank you, but I'd better be off."
I had no reason to be back but I couldn't sit here with this douchebag any longer. I hope Elodie didn't mean it and we could still hang out because I enjoyed her company and she was a vital member of our band.
"Yo you were gone for ages! Where's Elodie?" Sebastian asked when I got in.
"I had dinner round there and met her boyfriend. He's an idiot and really controlling towards her. Doesn't want her hanging out with us any more."
Emerson came into the room and I explained what happened.
"What did she have to say about it?""She didn't say anything. She looked like she was scared of him. Her mum and brother seemed oblivious to him though. He was only rude when they'd gone."
