Chapter 10 - Remington Leith

The last week at school, people had constantly been whispering things about me, or saying things to my face and it was really getting me down. I couldn't even face seeing the boys and I was ignoring all of their messages because whenever I turned my phone on, there would be a message from one of Steve's friends or even from him about how I was disgusting and should kill myself.

I told Mum that the boys were sick so that's why there was no rehearsal, but she opened my bedroom door to reveal Remington and frowned at me.

"Our neighbours seem perfectly fit and healthy to me."

I looked guilty as she shut the door and thought about how I'd have to tell her the real reason later.

"Why did you tell your mum we were sick?" Remington asked.

"I didn't want to go to rehearsal."

"Why?"

I couldn't meet his eyes and didn't even know what to say, so he took a seat on my bed and reached for my hand.

"You know you can tell me if something's wrong, El."

I nodded and when I told him what had been happening at school he sighed and pulled me in for one of his signature tight hugs.

"You should have told us and we would have taken your mind off of it, now you're just stuck here thinking about it," he said.

"I really don't think I have the energy to play bass today or sing harmonies. School's tired me out," I told him honestly.

"How about we just stay here and watch a movie? I can tell the others no practice tonight and you and I can stay here."

He pulled the covers up and got into bed next to me, which was awkward at first, but once the film had started, we relaxed and I even cuddled up to him when a scary scene came on. We put on a second film and I woke up with my head on his shoulder halfway through.

"Sleepy there?" he teased, but didn't seem to mind.

It had turned into a great night and I  told him I was really grateful he'd cheered me up. He left and I said I'd be back tomorrow for rehearsal. By the end of the week, we had recorded enough songs to fill an album, so decided we'd try and sell it soon and advertise locally for gigs.

Emerson set up his camera in the basement and we decided to try and take a picture of all of us to make a poster we could put up around town.

"I look a bit out of place, don't you think," I said, looking at myself compared to the others. They had such a quirky punk style and I just looked...normal.

"Why don't we give you a punk makeover!" Emerson squealed.

"I think you look great the way you are," Remington said.

I went bright red at his words.

"We're not saying she looks bad, just that maybe it would be fun to make her look like us," Seb offered.

Remington didn't want to help with the makeover for some reason and went to sulk in the living room while Emerson dragged me outside. Sebastian joined us and we drove to the mall to buy me a new outfit for the photoshoot.

"What's up with Remington?" I asked in the car.

"Isn't it obvious?" Emerson said.

I looked at them dumbfounded until Sebastian laughed.

"He likes you idiot, and doesn't want you to change. He's crazy about you."

I processed his words and couldn't even form my own. After stuttering some embarrassing noises, I followed the boys into a thrift shop.
