"Ugh, jerk alert. Let's go." Jasmine said snarky and yanked her away from him. "What a total ass like seriously on the first day of school. Pathetic." She said once they were a ways away from him.
"He wants to be friends. He can't be serious, Jas" She mumbled. "Friends. Seriously. Two years, he ends it then wants to be friends."
"Are you spiraling?" Jasmine whipped around to look at her friend and places her hands on her shoulders.
"I'm fine. Well... I'm shocked. Usually when someone says they want to be friends after they break up with you it's just to be nice. But he is serious Jas." Her eyes stared right into her best friend.
"Well we already now that he is delusional he broke up with you. Right?" Her friend took her hands off her shoulders and they started walking to their first period. "Let's be happy we don't have any classes with him."
The rest of her day went as smoothly as almost first days go. When lunch time had arrived she reunited with her best friend and a couple of other friends. They sat at the lunch tables and talked about the classes they had already. One of her friends was already complaining about a paper being due soon in her A.P lit class. Lily just sat quietly and ate her lunch until lunch.
The bell rang for lunch to be over and the girls gathered their things and separated ways except for Lily and Jasmine. Next they had history together.
When they reached the classroom they scanned the room but there wasn't any. But Lily noticed that Ocean was in her class. He had on a white shirt that was sprinkled with paint and plain black pants. His loose chocolate colored hair feel over his eyes as while he was sketching on paper. She was brought back to reality when Jasmine shoved her in the back. Quickly they shuffled to the empty seats. After everyone was seated the teacher went over the demands of the class. Then he began to start pairing of names that he read off the paper.
"Get familiar with one another. For any future projects that is the person you will be working with." Majority of the class started to moan. "No complaining these are final."
Lily and Jasmines eyes found each other. They weren't paired together. Jasmine was paired with Natalie one of the smartest kids in their graduating class. Lily was paired with Ocean, she turned in his direction but his head was still down and his hand scribbling away.
The teacher said some more things that she started to tune out as she looked out the window. She slid out her phone. 2:25. Five more minutes before the bell rang.
"Now take these last few minutes to talk to who I have paired you with. Exchange numbers or email I don't care. Just no excuse of you didn't know who your partner was or how to talk to them outside of our class time." Mr. Turner said sternly.
Her stomach dropped. Lily wasn't one for talking to people she didn't know. She put her things inside her bag and walked over to his text. For a moment she stood at his next hoping that he would start first. But all he did was shift his eyes from his his drawings to her eyes.
His honey eyes felt as if they were staring into her soul searching for her secrets. She held her breathe for her second still in hope that he would start. But he just stared.
"I'm Lily." She breathed out.
"Ocean." His voice smooth and rough at the same time.
"So I guess we are partners." He started to put his things away as she spoke. "Um. Do you text?" As she asked this and pulled out her phone she cringed.
He stood up and she had to look up at him. She didn't notice how tall he was when she had saw him at the outlet mall.
"You want my number?"
"Yea." Her voice shook.
He reached out and took her hand. He turned her wrist over and jotted down his number and walked off. Lily stood their in shock that he just wrote his number on her wrist.
The bell rang and Jasmine came to stand next to her.
"Come on I'll drive you home!" Jasmine said not really noticing what her friend was doing because she was to busy with her phone. She sat in the passenger seat as she tried to transfer the number from her wrist to her phone. She double check to make sure that she got the numbers right before.
"What are you doing?" Jas questioned.
"He wrote his damn number on the wrist." She responded confused.
"What?"
"Oh my gosh!"
"What!" Jas still lost on what was happening.
"He gave me his number but I didn't give him my number. So that means I have to text him or wait till tomorrow. Which would be super awkward."
"Yea for sure awkward." Her friend final realized what she was saying. "Just text him. Don't over think it."
"Right don't over think it."
It's Lily from history. - Lily.
"Well I'm glad I got Natalie I'm not gonna have to do much."
"Jas do not make that girl do all the work."
"How could you ever think I would do that?" She said as she placed her hand on her chest.
"Cuz that's what you do when we get partnered together." Jasmine let a big laugh.
"I won't. But the input maybe be minimal."
"Your annoying." Lily as she exited the car. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"You want me to pick you?"
"No it's good I'll get a ride with my dad. I'll see you tomorrow." Lily said then closed the door and walked up to her door and unlocked it.
She went straight to her room and laid down. Before she drifted off to sleep she texted her dad.
I'm home. -Lily.
