January 10, 2017-JFK International Airport, NY-11:05 P.M
"Gosh, I'm so tired." Brandon Prust announced before tossing himself into the chair across from me.
I laughed and popped an M&M in my mouth, "Tonight was a tough win tonight."
"I know Subbs was able to get that goal in at the last second."
P.K. smirked and leaned further back into his seat. "What can I say? I'm just that damn good."
I rolled my eyes just in time to see coach Therrien walk out from the jet bridge. "Okay, don't bring the vain attitude on the plane; I'm too tired to deal with it."
Laughs came out from of the few of the guys who weren't listening to their music. Carey Price was the one to ask, "Is it time to board yet?"
Therrien nodded and grabbed his briefcase, "Yeah so get going before your favorite seats get taken."
I chuckled and stood up with the rest of my teammates. While retrieving my backpack from the floor, the sound of my cell caused me to stop. Looking down at the caller ID I saw it was my brother Ryan.
"Hey Ry, what are you doing calling me at this hour? I'm just about to board my plane so make it quick."
"It's dad, Lauren." Ryan announced.
I froze, "What is wrong? Is-is everything okay?"
He huffed on the other line, "I-we don't know. All I know right now is that he's in the hospital after complaining about stomach pains. I just thought you shoul-"
I cut him off, "I'm coming to Boston."
"What? Lau you don't have to come. He probably has a stomach bug or something."
I shrugged as I hoisted my backpack onto my shoulder, "I don't care if he does or doesn't I'm going to see my father. I'll call you again in an hour."
I hung up and began to walk in the opposite direction of my teammates who were boarding the plane, which is what caused Carey to grab my forearm.
"Hey where are you going?" He questioned.
"Boston. It's a family emergency."
Carey released me, "I'll let coach know. Now get going."
I mouthed a 'thank you' before jogging to the nearest front desk for a plane ticket to Boston.
Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA-12:37 A.M.
Finally making it to the correct building I ran up the eight flights of stairs knowing it was faster than the elevator, but I paid the price of having to lose my breath. As I turned the corner to the waiting room I was taken by the sight of seeing my three brothers, Bree, as well as several Bruins and coach Julien. My brother Mike was the first to notice me.
"Oh my gosh Lau. You look horrible." He pointed out as he came over to examine me.
"I'm fine. How is dad? Is everything alright?" I asked as I took a seat.
Mike shook his head, "We don't know yet. Kate is with dad and Dr. Sanchez just walked in to the room a few minutes ago. I guess they got their test results back."
"What happened with dad and how exactly did he end up in the hospital? Did he really check himself in for abdominal pain only?"
"Yeah. Kate brought him to the hospital two hours ago." Kevin spoke as he took the seat next to me, "We haven't seen him yet, but Kate has been coming back and forth to give us reports of his progress. The last we heard was that Dr. Sanchez wanted to run some routine tests."
