Violent shivers were dancing throughout Petra's body, her teeth chattering loudly. She was sitting on the side of her bed, one of her arms tightly wrapped around herself, while her forehead was rested in the other hand. It felt like something was trying to split her head open from the inside, making her see double from pain. Her entire bedroom was a mere blur around her as the world tilted and spun. She felt like throwing up.
Rascal whined, pulling his ears back as he nudged Petra with his nose. When he didn't get a response from her, a gentle lick to her face was his next attempt.
Petra could feel Rascal's actions, but she couldn't even think about reacting. All her fight at that moment was going in to keeping control over her mind.
Most of that morning, Petra had spent hanging around Lukas. While he worked the recipe Olivia gave him, Petra had sat at the dining table with her head sometimes buried her in arms, sometimes gazing ahead at the photograph of her, Jesse and Lukas. It was really out of her nature to just spent time wallowing her own sorrows, but Petra hadn't felt up to any more.
After lunch, Lukas had coaxed Petra back to bed. She didn't have the energy or strength to put up much of a fight, and eventually gave into his wishes. It was probably a good thing at that, considering Petra was asleep mere moments after her head touched the pillow. For how long she was asleep, Petra didn't know. She woke up with a splitting headache, every part of her feeling the same as the previous night when Lukas carried her back home.
Petra refused to let some other force possess her mind again, she refused. But she was too disoriented to even get to her feet, and her attempts at calling out for Lukas had only turned into weak croaks. For the first time, Petra genuinely understood what Jesse went through each time she became possessed.
Lukas was painfully unaware of what was happening to Petra at that moment. He was grinning from ear to ear, as he held up a small vial of dark purple liquid. It came out exactly the way the instructions described it, thin, purple, opaque and smelling of sugar. It had to be a success!
"Now comes the scary part." Lukas said with a deep breath, as he carefully poured half of the liquid into a separate vial. "Actually drinking this, and praying I don't poison myself."
Lukas put the one vial aside for Petra, holding the other one up in front of himself. He wanted to make sure it wasn't going to do anything to him, before even thinking about using it on his friend.
But before Lukas could bring the vial to his lips, his attention was jerked away by an upset yelp. Lowering the vial, he turned to look behind him. Rascal came running up from the hallway, his ears pulled back flat against his head. Immediately he leaped up at Lukas, desperately pawing at the blonde's clothes.
"Easy, boy." Lukas tried to calm the wolf. "What's wrong?"
Rascal whined, turning back in the direction of the hallway before running back to Lukas. He pulled on his jacket's sleeve, trying to get Lukas to follow him down the hallway.
"Petra!" Lukas gasped, realising what would have Rascal riled up the way it did.
Not needing to be told twice, Lukas bolted down the hallway with Rascal right on his heels. He threw open Petra's door, running to the shaking redhead's side. Her face was as white as a sheet, sweat glistening on her pale skin despite how unbelievably cold it had gotten.
"What's wrong, are you okay?" Lukas gasped as he skidded to a stop beside Petra.
"L-Lukas-" Petra began, only to break off coughing. Rascal whined loudly, looking between Lukas and Petra desperately.
"I-I can't-" Petra tied to speak through the uncontrollable coughs that were racking her body. "-stop i-it. I-I d-don't want t-to g-get-"
The coughing began to drown out Petra's words as she folded double in pain. Panic surged through Lukas's system, realising that Petra was beginning to loose control. But before he could act, Petra's coughing seized. She slumped forward, and he caught her just in time before she could fall.
