By now, Lucis had been at the orphanage for a few weeks, and no words had left his mouth the entire time. Even when the headmaster or nurse spoke to him, and his mysteriousness was gaining attention. People had begun to spread rumors of the boy, but he paid no mind.
No one dared to interact with him, though. Since Jack had made his dislike clear, it was crucial that no one else got along with Lucis, for they too would be targeted.
Even the staff began to avoid him. Not because of Jack's influence, but because they had learned a few things about him that really set off a few alarms. They knew where those scars came from, and how the boy came to be so quiet.
So he was alone.
Lucis sat on his bed as he enjoyed the peaceful silence. It wasn't a bad thing that everyone avoided him, since he wouldn't reply, anyway, but every now and then, he would be left alone with himself, and certain thoughts would leave him afraid of himself.
Echoes of laughter interrupted his train of thought, reminding him of the giggles he had forgotten.
The giggles from those he once loved.
The door opened up, and Lucis looked up, surprised to see Jack stepping in.
"Sorry... I knocked, but nobody answered."
Lucis blankly stared at him as Jack scratched the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Uhh.... sorry about the pudding."
Lucis paused for a second. Pudding?
He remained silent as he stared into Jack's eyes, realizing Jack was the culprit.
"What was that on your back?" Jack blurted our, curiosity getting the best of him.
Lucis looked up, shocked, though he didn't let it show.
"You mean my scars?" Lucis finally answered. This earned a gasp from Jack, who had been dying to hear Lucis's voice.
He was surprised to hear a soft and gentle voice. He nodded as Lucis looked up at him. "Where'd you get them?" He asked.
Lucis shrugged. It was obvious that he didn't want to say.
This left Jack impatient and even more curious.
Lucis avoided Jack's eyes. "Well, I'll excuse myself now. As I said before, I'm sorry."
Lucis silently watched as he finally left, and he was alone once more.

Derek's eyes shifted over to Jack's. "So? Did he even talk?"
Jack shook his head as he scrubbed at the chocolate stained carpet. "Not a word."
Jasper rolled his eyes. "Of course. What did we expect?"
Jack nodded. "Why do you think he's so quiet?" He asked, randomly. Jasper have him a strange look. "Cause he's weird."
Jack laughed. "Then what about the scars?"
Derek exhaled as he stretched his legs. "No clue....."
"Boys, less chitchatting and more scrubbing." The nurse pushed, clearly frustrated with the boys.
They all looked at each other before rolling their eyes, and bending over to continue their cleaning.
"Do you think he's an orphan?" Derek asked, his eyes wide.
Jasper laughed. "Probably. Most weirdos here are."
It wasn't uncommon for orphans to join the academy, since an orphanage was nearby. The man that owned it would often send children over in case they were too much trouble.
Jack glared at the two. "Are you two idiots aware of who else is an orphan?"
Jasper and Derek glanced at each other with big eyes. "Shit.... sorry. We forgot..."
Jack rolled his eyes, annoyed with the two. "Whatever, just hurry up."

Loud wails erupted, forcing Jack to shoot up from is comfortable slumber.
He looked to his side, rolling his eyes at Derek, who continued to sleep like a rock.
Jack reluctantly slipped off his comfortable bed, deciding to check out the interrupting cries. He gently opened the creaking door and peered down the dark hallway.
He tip-toed out of the room and followed the noises, which seemed to be from the child division.
Jack sighed as he walked towards a familiar room, but stopped in his tracks when he saw someone else.
Lucis was also tiptoeing his way towards the loud wailing.
Jack hid behind the wall and peek as Lucis gently opened the door and walked in, leaving the door wide open, much to Jack's satisfaction.
Isaac, the young boy known for constantly crying, continued, even though he was well aware of Lucis's presence.
"What's the matter?" Lucis asked softly, surprising Jack.
Isaac stopped sobbing for 7 seconds to explain why he sounded like a dying boar.
"M-my mommmm isn't coming to visit me this week!"
Jack rolled his eyes at the overly sensitive baby, but also seemed curious as Lucis sat next to him, and gently hugged him.
Jack's jaw dropped in shock as Lucis showed affection to the small boy. Jack would've just yelled at him to shut up, as well as the other boys. And even if Lucis probably wouldn't hit anyone, the fact that he was showing such remorse when it seemed like he carried no emotions was puzzling.
But Lucis didn't seem bothered. More like curious or concerned for the boy.
Isaac continued his tantrum, but his sobs were getting more and more quiet.
The crying finally stopped, and Lucis lifted Isaac back into his bed and covering him back up before leaving the room.
Lucis walked down the hallway, his face still emotionless, but the moment he noticed Jack, his heart jumped out of his chest, and he fliched.
Jack's eyes grew before laughter bubbled up. He tried to contain it, but it proved useless as he began to express his amusement.
Lucis's cheeks grew red with embarrassment, but other than that, he looked like he always did.
"What are you doing here?" Lucis asked in his monotone voice.
Jack wiped a tear away before sighing. "I came to shut the noisy brat up."
Lucis looked away before nodding. He passed Jack, who couldn't help by smile as Lucis walked back towards his room, the harsh blush remaining.
Jack watched him, the smile on his face growing. It pained him to think it..... but Jack found Lucis's surprised face cute. Even adorable.
Jack's heart thumped loudly, and he soon realized his expression. His smile dropped and Jack cleared his throat.
He took one last look at Isaac's room and made his way back to his room, slowly realizing what had just happened.
