Derek peeked into the dining room, ready to freak out one of the poor, unsuspecting children through a harmless jump scare.

He had been waiting for Jack to wake up, but the boy seemed exhausted.

Derek heard light footsteps and smirked evilly. When the footsteps were close enough, he jumped out of his hiding spot and yelled.

Kids glanced at him, surprised by the noise, but no one screamed, which was a usual occurrence. Derek looked up, realizing that there was no child.

"What's up, Derek?" The familiar voice said.

Derek's eyes widened as he realized who was standing right in front of him.

"Colton?! You're back?!"

Colton smiled and nodded. "Yup."

Jack awoke to a frantic Jasper, who seemed beyond excited. "He's here!" He explained loudly.

Jack rolled his eyes. "Who's here?"

"Colton!"

Jack shot up, and looked Jasper in the eye. "Serioudly?"

Jasper nodded and Jack bolted up. He ran to the bathroom and hurriedly brushed his teeth and washed his face.

He ran down the stairs and grinned at Colton. "Long time no see."

Jack nodded as he neared him. The two slapped each others hands, clearly excited to see one another in such a long time.

"So? Why're you back so soon?" Jack asked, a little worried.

Colton was the type of boy that was constantly in trouble, almost as if he craved it. He was also 10x worse than Jack when it came to bullying.

But he was the first friend Jack had ever made.

The two continued talking as if time didn't exist. Catching up as if everytjing around them didn't exist. That is, until Lucis passed them in the hallway, reminding Jack of the night before.

Jack immediately shut his mouth and stared at the passing boy, catching Colton attention.

"What? Is that guy causing problems?" Colton asked, concerned.

Jack was going to deny the accusation, but Derek decided to speak up.

"The newbie? Hell yeah he is! He got us in trouble pretty quickly!"

Jack rolled his eyes at Derek, but didn't object, in fear of Colton cooking up any strange thoughts.

"Well then, should I teach him a lesson?"

Jack laughed. "Nah. He didn't really mean anything. We were messing with him and some people saw."

Colton laughed. "Still..... He didn't seem to notice me.... should I introduce myself?"

Jack watched in horror as the attention seeking boy walked in the same direction Lucis was heading, and tried to think of some solution to distract Colton from Lucis.

He didn't know why, but he felt sorry for Lucis. Maybe it was because of the boy's considerate heart to comfort a crying child, or the look of innocence that randomly appeared when he was confused.

But either way, it affected Jack greatly.

"Hey, new kid." Colton called out, gaining Lucis's attention.

"Hi there. I'm Colton." He introduced, waiting for Lucis to show some sort of reaction.

But he didn't.

Lucis stared down at Colton hand, completely unaware of what to do, his face still empty with no emotion.

Colton continued smiling, but it was obvious that Lucis was dampering his ego.

Colton pulled away and wrapped his arm around Lucis's shoulder. "So I hear you caused some trouble for my boys. Is this true?"

Colton eyes flickered dangerously as Lucis stared off, as if no one else was around.

Colton smiled before releasing him, much to Jack's relief. "He's not worth our time."

Colton turned his back, bored, but Jack couldn't be more content. That is, until Lucis decided to speak.

"Bye."

This caught everyone by surprise. The bored Colton turned his head, and stared at Lucis, who stared innocently at the boys.

Colton seemed amused at the boy's choice of words. "Bye?"

Lucis remained silent as he looked up at Colton, confused, though he didn't let it show.

Jasper and Derek glanced at each other maliciously, waiting for some sort of action.

To them, it might've seemed as though Lucis was mocking them, in some strange way, but Lucis just didn't know what to say or how to interact with others.

Colton grew closer to Lucis, who merely stared, as he always did. Colton slowly lifted his hand, most likely trying to drag the boy to some strange place and beat him for pure amusement.

So Jack had to step in. Just as Colton was about to grab Lucis, Jack's hand grabbed Colton's wrist, shocking everyone, excluding Lucis, who was still unaware.

"The hell are you doing?" Colton asked, a cynical smile tugging at his lips.

Jack pulled Lucis closer to him. "Don't touch him."

He had no idea what possessed him to say this. He just met the boy, and yet he felt the need to protect him.

Derek and Jasper stared with wide eyes as Jack and Colton stared into each others eyes as if competing.

Lucis stared at the both of them, slightly confused.

Colton finally closed his eyes and dropped his hand to his side. "Alright. I'll back off. For now."

Jack watched as he turned his back and walked off, Derek and Jasper hot on his heels.

Jack sighed and looked at Lucis, who still showed no sign of emotion besides slight curiosity.

Jack put his hands on Lucis's shoulders and exhaled. "Stay away from him. He's bad news. Understand?"

Lucis nodded his head, his dark eyes seeming less dull than before.

Jack nodded and backed off before walking off. But before he turned the corner, he heard the faintest noise. He looked up and stared at Lucis, who bowed his head before walking off.

"Did he just thank me?" Jack asked aloud, a small smile tugging at his lips.

He turned his back and followed after Colton, hoping to clear up the whole misunderstanding, though he knew it wouldn't be easy.
