Under the moonlight

Chapter 8

There's a knock on the door and I expect it to be Victor since the past week he has been eating breakfast with me. The maids have already fixed my outfit and hair I only refuse to let them bathe me. So when I open the door I am completely ready to eat some pancakes. However, it isn't Victor but Isabelle smiling at me holding herself up with a jeweled cane.

"Victor asked me to come accompany you today. Sorry if I am disappointing to you." She says in a soft sweet voice.

I smile brightly trying to calm her nervous behavior. "Not at all at least this way I have a girl to talk to! Boys are so much more draining and just no fun."

She looks at me for the first time showing me crystal blue eyes. "They do make a bit of a ruckus." She says smiling timidly.

We leave for breakfast and she talks to me about how she was connected to the mansion. Her parents are nobles of loyal background to the rulers. To show loyalty to the new prince they betrothed Isabelle to him. She really sees that he isn't bad compared to the rumors that she heard. Ever since she was little she was sick and he would always go and visit her until her family agreed to let her be treated by the royal doctor.

She knows that I have had my freedom taken from me but she was never able to be free because of her illness. I tell her about where I am from and how I moved to a city to tattoo people. I also show her some of my tattoos which keeps her in awe. The breakfast was very refreshing to have someone nice to talk to. I know I should feel somewhat sad for her but I am glad that she seems to have a peaceful life.

Before we part I walk her to her room. "I want you to have this to represent our friendship so you will be able to see the world one day." I say smiling handing her my dragon eye ring.

She takes it then throws her arms around me. "Thank you, I want you to know that my last wish is for you to be free too."

I furrow my eyebrows and reply. " Don't sound so grim it's not like you're going to die yet."

She looks at me past her long eyelashes. "I know I only have a few more weeks, months at most. If it's okay with you I would like to hear more about where you come from sometime. Talks like these give me a strange hope."

With that she went in her room and I was left standing slightly heartbroken by such a sweet girl. The next day Victor comes to pick me up and I have him come with me to invite Isabelle. She starts to open up more each day that passes and I learn that she has had a crush on Victor. Even though her heart belongs to the master she still think he's cute.

When I speak with her it's like I'm not that far away from home any longer. She even seems in a much better health as well. Now we even walk through the garden together. It's almost as if we have know one another for years. Master has avoid me ever since we became friends. She's like my good luck charm always being able to make me smile or get embarrassed.

Almost a month has passed now and we are walking through the garden together. I look over and see men in the middle of a training session in a field. I look at Isabelle and see her leaning on her cane smiling at me. I raise my eyebrows at her wonder why she's making such an expression.  It just makes her giggle furiously. She hooks the arm she doesn't use the cane with around mine.

"Let's go watch them closer you can tell me which one you find cute!" She says and I allow her to drag me.

Even so I still protest. "There's no point of getting so close we might get hurt. Plus they seen busy and besides I probably won't find any cute."

She rolls her eyes at me. "Come on Allegra I told you who all I think are cute. Besides why see the world when he have handsome hunks frolicking around."
