"Oh darling, why do you cry?" I jumped as the voice from above frightened me, "I'm sorry love, did I startle you?"I looked up to see a boy about my age, maybe a year or two older, brown messy hair, dark brown eyes, and elvish ears poking out of his hair. He was sitting on a tree branch with a guitar around his shoulder. I didn't respond to his questions, I wasn't sure about dumping my sick life onto some stranger.
"Well, if you're not gonna talk then I guess I will. I'm Ryan," We shook hands, his had white fingerless gloves on them, "And you are?" He jumped down from the tree and leaned against it.
"Y-y/n"
"Ah, the pretty girl speaks! Now Y/n, what caused a lovely girl like yourself to cry these sad sad tears?" He stood so he was facing me and wiped away the tears. I don't think I have much of a choice... I could lie? No... he's the one that asked...
"I-I was hel-helping my friends get-get home and th-they wanted t-to take a-a different path than m-me. But, they don't really know this forest as w-well as I do so I told them n-no and they flipped out and yelled..." I don't need him to know about Patrick...
"Oh, well I'm sorry darling. That's not the only reason you're crying so hard, is it?" He asked, looking over at the tree carving. He placed a hand over it and gentle rubbed it, "I won't make you talk anymore if you don't want to." I sat down where I was before, this time, he joined me.
"What about y-you?" He hummed, wanting to know what I meant, "Why a-are you here? Y-you asked me, I get to ask you." I kept my head down as I looked at the grass sitting in front of me.
"I uhh, you probably noticed I'm an elf," I nodded and looked up at him, he sighed before continuing.
"Well, I turned eighteen a few months ago, so I should be ruler of the elvin people. But I didn't want to do that, I couldn't do that. It's not who I am, everyone back home even called me George, George is my father. He's ruler, I'm just his stupid bastard son who just happens to be next in line." He threw a rock in the water.
"Well, what do you wanna do? "
"I just wanna become a musician. I've wanted to all my life. I know I should be grateful to be king and all, but it's just not what I want." He pulled off his hat and ran a hand through his hair.
"So I told my so called 'friend' about this, but he told my father and got me banished. So I wandered the forest, played some music for some people, fought off some tiny snap dragons, and then I found my way here, where I met you. "
As soon as he finished talking, my eyes went wide, oh my god I have the food bag the boys are gonna starve...maybe they deserve it? No no that's awful...
"Hey, are you okay?" He must've noticed my change of expression. I should give him some food... find new friends...yeah, that'll teach em'
"Uh, yeah yeah, do you want some food?" My tears had finally stopped, he wiped a few away as I spoke.
"Really!? Yeah, I'm starving. It'll be nice not having to eat nuts and berries for dinner again, and to share with you, of course. " He winked causing me to giggle as I grabbed two sandwiches. Ryan talked more about his old life as we ate, it was very fascinating to learn about him. We finished eating just as it began to get dark.
"Hey, can I show you something?" He asked, scratching the back of his neck.
"Yeah," I answered, curiously.
He grabbed his guitar that he had set down next to him earlier. He played with the nobs a little, then began to play. I layed in the grass as I watched his fingers move up and down the neck of the guitar.
