Asuna wants nothing more than to escape. Far away from her home on the seaside and far from the curse that everyone claims she carries in her heart. No matter if she looks at the sea, the beach houses or the markets - everything reminds her of her sister. Time keeps going forward, but she is stuck in the past and she can't help it but think that soon, she will be gone too. The scar that she got on the night when she came back and her sister didn't - it's growing.
Asuna eventually makes it to the big city, but things don't go as well as she hoped that they would. To fit in, she is forced to change everything about herself and become a completely different person until one day when a problem in the family forces her to move back home. The only problem is that during the years that she was gone, Hando island changed even more than she did and she is the only one who seems to notice.
The locals are terrified of an angry spirit that is destroying their land, there are fishtailed people swimming in the waters and some island guests are a lot more peculiar than others.
Asuna struggles to adjust to her new life, her curse is threatening to take her and shocking family secrets begin to shine a new light on her past. Her false persona starts fading away once she starts to understand that she is enough just by being herself and above all, she manages to spark an unusual friendship with a boy who always wears a fox-shaped mask.
She used to hate her life on Hando island, but over the course of one summer, everything changes.
