I watch Erys and Brynne glance at each other. God, this thing was ugly. Its irises were black and devoid of any emotion. The whites of its eyes were bloodshot and bumpy in some places. To match its eyes, bumps were scattered across the back and the tail was cut off so only a tuft of meat was left. The thing snarls at Erys and pounces.

"Looks like you've got this; I'll scout ahead." I edge around the two and bolt out the door, but not before I hear the sound of bone being forcibly broken. Glancing down both sides of the hallway, I see nothing. Never before have I ever wished for psychic powers, but now would be a great time for that so I'd know if I should turn left or right.

"We need to go right." I jump at the sound of Erys' whisper behind me. Placing my hand over my heart, I fix her with one of my more famous glares.

We sneak down what feels like eight flights of stairs, dodging guards and canines. I feel like my breathing is too loud in comparison to the nonexistence of Brynne and Erys' breathing. My thoughts stop and dissolve when I hear a laugh resonate through the hall we are currently in. I look towards a door that's slightly ajar and feel the hair's on the back of my neck prick up. I watch the two Shifters take each side of the wall next to the bronze engraved double oak doors. Mahogany would've looked better with these decorations. I keep my eyes trained on the end of the hallway, watching for any signs that something is coming.

"He will need all your available men at his command, and nothing less than the best." I could hear the smile in his creepy voice.

"I thought he already had the Boy King locked up or as his slave. What could he possibly need my men for?" The richness of the voice confirmed it was one of the Vamps who used my club as a feeding ground.

"That is...none of your concern." the chair screeched against the ground as it was pushed back. "You just need to be an obedient little bloodsucker and wait for His Majesty to call upon you and in return you can wreak havoc on all the humans you'd like." Heavy, wet footsteps drew closer to the door and Brynne grabbed me by my arm and hauled me down the hallway towards the dead end. What? No!

I began to struggle but stopped at the look Erys gave me. She eases the window open and jumped out, probably landing with all the grace of a cat. Brynne is ushering me out when that voice hits me.

"Going so soon, love?" I don't even turn around as I fall out of the window. I close my eyes and am caught and quickly put down before a soft thump has me opening my eyes. Brynne lands next to me.

"Damnit!" Erys grunts in frustration as we run like hell back to the stolen jeep waiting for us a street away. I don't need to look back to know they're gaining on us.

I take a deep breath and smile, what a day. Enormous wings unfold from my back, ripping through my shirt and spreading behind me. My wings are a darker pink than the rest of me and I grip Erys and Brynne's waists before shooting up into the sky.

"Holy shit! That was awesome! Brynne shouts above the wind. Erys chuckles and looks below us watching the vampires recede into little ant sized shapes.

Landing in their yard, I let go of them and fold my wings against my back. I follow them inside, feeling a question form in my head.

"Why didn't we just kill them?" I plop into the love seat and turn a raised eyebrow to them.

"Because we-well I-didn't mess with anything to do with the upcoming war. Although I doubt I'll be able to avoid it anymore." Erys says, pointedly looking at me.

"The Reclid said something about the Boy King being caught, do you think that means he's returned?" Brynne is practically bubbling with excitement.

"One: He's not technically a boy. Human? Yes. Boy? No."

"Anyway, who is this 'His Majesty' the thing was talking about?" Erys turns to look at me, raising her eyebrows and folding her arms.

My eyes go wide for a split second and I cast my head down. I examine my nails, hoping to look nonchalant but I know she caught my little slip.

"Oh, you know, the dragon who's had a vendetta against you two for the longest time now." It went so quiet you could've heard a pin drop.

"He's alive?!" Brynne shouts, glaring straight at me.

"You didn't know?" I pull out my file and begin buffing away any imperfections. Their glares burn into my skin and I shift uncomfortably. They turn to converse amongst themselves and it's the first time I've ever wanted super hearing. A loud bang against the door has me jumping, turning to glare in the sound's general direction. Erys rolls her eyes as Brynne groans out something about werewolves. Werewolves? What are they doing here.

A/N: I bet you thought I would miss this month's update huh? Well shame on you because you almost jinxed me. Anyway, hope you like it -PG13
