Uninvited

bright banter flood the atmosphere
faces were blaring and clear
despite the email letter
it was as though i am not to be here

i brought tropical punch
why wouldn't they look at it?
"Does anyone want a drink?"
i ask in genuine spirit

loud conversations replied
but not in response to my question
i placed the punch aside and sat
at the quiet corner in cession

fireworks dance amongst crowd
my attempts to get closer fails
i want the light to hit my skin
to be as bright as other's tales

half-filled soda cups kicked aside
as feet shuffle and dance
i chugged the full drink
escaping my sullen trance

sparking my own lighter
i waved the flame above my head
savouring the taste of tropical
in no one's but my stead
