Ben's POV
It was a warm September night. I walked down the vacant sidewalks of town to go have a chat with Allison.
I climbed the fire evacuation staircase to her window. She sat her desk with a disappointed look on her face.
"Knock knock." I yelled from outside to get her attention. I think I scared her because she jumped a bit, but she came running to the window as soon as she saw me.
"What are you doing here?" She grabbed my hand and helped me inside.
"Just thought I'd stop by. See how your first day of senior year went." I plopped myself down on her bed. Her room smelled strongly of her, which I loved.
"I guess mine was good. How was yours?"
"Good. I just can't believe we're seniors already." I didn't want to think about us having to go our separate ways. I never wanted to lose the special bond I have with her.
"I know, right? Like, don't you remember when we were just tiny second graders?" She came over and sat down beside me. She moved closer to me, which made butterflies go up in my stomach.
"I know! Time flies—," I was interrupted by Alli's boyfriend coming through the window.
Don't get me wrong, Matt's a nice guy. Although, he's a bit weird around me and there's always seemed to be something a bit—off—about him.
He wrapped his arms around her and asked her how her day was.
"Good." She answered back in almost a whisper.
I decided it was probably my time to go, so I climbed back out the window and made my way down to the sidewalk.
As I walked home, my mind was only focused on one thing: Allison.
Alli and I have been the best of friends since elementary school. We were so close that we decided to make a list of rules for our friendship—one being that we should never become more than friends. When we were younger, we always thought it would be icky and gross.
Of course I've always thought about it, but I had to come to the realization that it would never happen when she started dating other guys. I've also wondered if she had the same feelings for me at one point.
There has to be a point in every opposite sex friendship that they like each other, however never tell each other, right?
I don't think she would've been as hung up on me as I am on her. I haven't dated a single girl because I've always thought I'd have the slightest chance of being with her. At this point I just need to move on.
But I can't.
