Allison's POV

I awoke from a rough nights sleep and rubbed my eyes. I remembered I had texted Ben last night to apologize for Matt interrupting our conversation.

I checked my text messages to see no new message from him.

I got out of bed and threw on a pair of jeans and a rust colored shirt. I wore a white cardigan over top and a pair of brown combat boots.

I ran out of my apartment building after saying goodbye to my parents. It was almost 7:00, which was the time Ben and I met up so we could walk to school together.

As I approached his apartment building, I could see him sitting on the steps outside the building.

"Hey Jonesy, I'm not late today!" I yelled to him.

"It's a miracle!" He got up and let me catch up to him.

He was wearing Adidas pants and a red Adidas shirt along with a pair of sneakers.  He normally dressed comfortable.

"How did you sleep last night?"

"Good. I was exhausted."

"What? Did you and Matt 'do it'?" I could feel him smiling over at me, waiting for my reaction.

"No!" I smacked him on the arm playfully and he giggled. "I had lots of homework." I said quietly which made him laugh again.

There was a long pause, so I decided now was the time to apologize to him.

"I don't know if you saw my text last night, but I'm really sorry about Matt cutting us off. I really wanted to talk to you more and he kind of pushed you out."

"Really, it's fine. I didn't come for any important reason and I shouldn't have been out that late anyways. I would've seen the text but I was out past curfew, so my dad took my phone."

"Oh. That sucks." I stared at the ground because this was one of those awkward moments.

I always felt there was a tension between us. A sexual tension that was meant to be broken, but it can't be because there's rules in this friendship. It'll never be broken in my opinion.

There was nothing but silence between us the rest of the way to school. When we got inside, Matt grabbed onto me and pulled me in the opposite direction. Ben didn't look back or give me a 'see ya later'.

He was used to being third-wheeled by me, and it made me feel horrible inside.
