CHAPTER 3
03. I DON'T WANT TO SPOIL THE PARTYDaisy has never felt so uncomfortable in her life.
When Steve had invited them to his house for a party she had expected at least twenty people, even if it was a small gathering, after all, he is the self proclaimed most popular boy in school, but when they arrived, they were met with a mere five people.
Tommy and Carol were there as expected, immediately leaving a sour taste in Daisy's mouth. They were stood by the pool when the group arrived, the boy threatening to throw his girlfriend in, a grating scream erupting from her. The couple ignored them as they walked passed, but Daisy didn't miss how Tommy stared at her bare legs, and neither did Lawrence, who pulled her to the other side of him and out of view.
Then, following Steve, they were greeted with an awkward smile from Nancy Wheeler and silence from Barbara Holland. Admittedly, Daisy has never particularly spoken to the two, other than the occasional word or so in class, but she knows enough about them to be confused as to why they were there. Much like Daisy and her friends, the pair were neither popular nor unliked, but they certainly weren't on the social level to be associated with Steve Harrington, so why they were invited she didn't know.
The next issue presented itself through the number of chairs, more specifically there not being enough. Daisy's offer to sit on the floor was met with objection, so she found herself sat in between Daniel's legs on a lounge chair, her back leaning slumped on his chest. It wasn't necessarily the position that gave her discomfort, completely content with being around her friends in such a way, more so the prying eyes from those around them.
However, she'd take living through that all over again rather than endure the tense silence the group are currently sat in, the giggling coming from Tommy and Carol at the pool the only noise to be heard.
Daisy, despite how uncomfortable she feels, takes this as an opportunity to survey the situation. Nancy, who is sitting opposite her on the edge of her seat, back straight and hands fidgeting in her lap, looks as uneasy as Daisy feels. Every few seconds she'll slyly glance at Steve before swiftly looking away upon being caught. Ah, Daisy thinks, so that's why they're here.
