Rin was taking a walk outside of his dorm. He had listened for about two seconds to the sermons of his brother and then, he had lost himself in the contemplation of his tail. It seemed to taunt him with its innocent looks. God dammit! It was almost pretty! He loathed it. It reminded him of all the things he didn't like about himself. He loathed it more with every subtle movement it made under his shirt while he was in class. It reminded him of how much of a difference there was between him and his friends. It reminded him of how much of a bother he was to his brother. That there was a possibility that he was the one to keep his brother from accessing his goals. It reminded him that he was a demon, the son of Satan, dangerous.

Rin didn't like to think like that. He was more of a positivist. He didn't want to lose hope but there were times like this when it was hard to find a light in the mess that became his life. He wanted to be the happy-go-lucky person that everyone knew him to be, to forget about everything his brother had just said but sometimes he couldn't help but think he was right...

So, after a while, Rin just had enough of his brother telling him that he was careless and would hurt everyone he loved and he'd noticed the window from the corner of his eye. It seemed so inviting, an exit from this situation that he so badly wanted to escape from. And just like that without thinking more about it, he jumped out of the window onto a branch that was next to it. His brother was so flabbergasted he didn't even do anything except yell his name for a few times. The young half demon started to climb down the tree but he put too much weight on one of the branch and he plundered down to the ground with a loud "Crack!"

"Ouch..." The young man would have a few bruises from that but he didn't care. The sense of freedom he felt at that moment prevented him from paying too much attention to his hurt backside. He quickly got to his feet, readjusting the sword on his back and went off.

He had been walking for a while now, lost in his thoughts. He didn't understand why the world seemed to be so harsh on him. He wasn't sure why everyone who knew about his secret seemed to think that since he got his powers he had become dangerous, like somehow he wasn't Rin anymore. Like he was only a demon now... Nonetheless, he wouldn't prove them right. He would make sure to be the same carefree teen he had always been. He would make sure to stay selfless, to not add anything more to his brother's problems. He knew that he wasn't the only one to suffer from the situation and he wouldn't forget that he wasn't the only one with problems and so, he would stay strong and never let his mood down like he had tonight. He would keep his head up and his smile on his face. He would prove to Yukio that he could still be his big brother... Like before all of this... And even though they weren't even in the loop about his origins, he would prove to his classmates, to his new friends, that he was still human enough to be with them, to talk, laugh, hang out, to be normal... It would be hard, challenging but he would do it for everyone. Especially for his brother.

Malika was hanging from a commercial sign on the side of the road. She had followed Rin to this remote location which was at the very far east of the town her older brother owned. They had reached the bottom of the hill-like town where there were less and less buildings and more vegetation. They were approaching a forest which looked like a place where you could get lost very easily, especially at this time since the moon didn't produce enough light  to get through the leaves. You could discern a couple of low ranking demons play around in the bushes and it was very obvious to Malika that nobody had set foot (and especially not an exorcist) in this forest in ages because of the amount of demons and how very unsubtle they all were. If any exorcist had come here, even for a minute, at least a half of these demons wouldn't be here tonight.

When they saw her little brother coming close to where they were, they rejoiced. They all looked like puppies that missed their master while he was away for the day. 'The new prince as come to play with us' they surely thought. A little hobgoblin even ran up to him and started to jump around him, very excited but Rin to deep in thoughts didn't notice him.
