jisung woke hyerim up a couple of minutes before they got to their station. her neck didn't ache as much as she thought it would when she was leaning against the window, but that was because she ended up lifting her head from jisung's shoulder instead.

"did i fall on you? sorry," she sheepishly mumbled, brushing her hair back.

jisung shook his head and smiled at her softness. "you looked uncomfortable, so i moved you."

rather than saying her thanks, hyerim returned the grin right as the train came to a halt. the doors opened and they slowly but surely exited, waiting for sunwoo and doyeon near a pillar. jisung glanced down at hyerim's hands and immediately missed the feeling of them in his own.

she locked her fingers together in an attempt to warm them up, only for the boy beside her to grab them.

"woah, your hands are so cold," jisung gaped, satisfied with himself for finding such a lame yet reasonable excuse. "and small."

hyerim scrunched her nose up in pretend anger to hide her embarrassment and squeezed his hands.

"thanks for that, captain obvious."

doyeon suddenly appeared, skipping up to them. "so where to now, kids?"

the rest of the day was spent together generously. they didn't get back home until eight in the evening. when they arrived at the train station, the oldest of the four offered to drop everyone off at their houses.

with jisung and hyerim in the back, sunwoo upfront, and doyeon driving, the car ride was peaceful. chill music played from the radio and throughout the speakers of the car, and because it was late, everyone was slightly exhausted and drained of energy.

"we didn't finish our history project, did we?" jisung quietly asked, turning his head over to hyerim.

the girl looked up from the bag of takoyaki she bought earlier and widened her eyes. "i totally forgot about that! oh! um, you could stay over tonight and we can finish it?"

taking a moment to think, jisung nonchalantly shrugged his shoulders and said, "yeah, sure. i'll text my parents."

"i will too."

as she busied herself with asking her dad if jisung could stay over, the latter pretended to type away on his phone. he didn't feel like talking to his parents; he never really did unless they were screaming at him.

after getting the okay, hyerim let doyeon know that jisung would be spending the night at her place. the elder glanced back at her in the rearview mirror with a cheeky grin to which hyerim responded by playfully rolling her eyes.

when she sat back in her seat, she was oblivious to the look sunwoo and doyeon shared.

"bye, kids! i'll see you soon~" waved doyeon.

after saying their goodbyes to the cousins, hyerim climbed out of the car with jisung close behind. the lights inside her house were still on, signaling that someone was still awake.

when the front door was unlocked and pushed open by hyerim, her little brother came running to the door.

"noona—" jaeseong gasped. "you brought jisung hyung! and takoyaki!"

jaeseong tightened his arms around jisung's waist, and the latter smiled down at him. he ruffled jaeseong's hair, making him let out a childish giggle.

gazing affectionately at the sight, hyerim nodded her head. "and he's staying for tonight."

"really?!" the younger excitedly exclaimed and looked up at jisung, who confirmed it with a hum.

while hyerim and jisung took their shoes off, listening to jaeseong talk about his day, hyerim noticed her father come into the hallway.

he walked over as to not surprise them and smiled kindly.

"you must be jisung," joohyuk began, putting his hands on jaeseong's shoulders. "i've heard a lot about you from these two."

"daaad," hyerim and jaeseong whined in unison, earning a laugh from jisung.

"that's me. it's nice to meet you," replied jisung.

after exchanging a few more words and hyerim's mother introducing herself also, the two teenagers finally managed to get to her room. there, jisung flopped back on to the bed and exhaled as hyerim strolled over to her closet and looked through the bottom drawer.

"you look around the same size as my cousin, so you can borrow his clothes tonight," she mentioned, pulling out a pair of sweatpants and a loose tee.

jisung caught a glimpse of the shirt and inwardly panicked. "i-i'll just wear my hoodie to sleep. it's really cold anyway."

"hm.. you're right," hyerim agreed. "come, i'll show you where the bathroom is."
