You know how awkward it is when you keep making eye contact with the same person several times? That’s exactly what I was experiencing. Chloe had paid for the naked dress and we were now just browsing through a music store and looking at all their CD’s. That group of boys were in this store as well and every time my eyes wandered the store they would meet his eyes and we’d both immediately look away. Then repeat the process again and again and again.
Twenty-Five minutes later, Chloe and I were lining up at the register. I had in my hands the new Coldplay CD. I couldn’t wait to get home and listen to this... although I had already illegally downloaded it....
While we waited in line, I exercised my skill of eaves dropping. The group of good looking boys were standing near the checkout line and discussing something. It was a question that was directed to Liam that caught my attention.
“Where did you disappear to last night? I thought you weren’t going to get crazy drunk like that again and have a repeat of last time with –“
“Shut up. Okay? I was having a bad day and needed a way to get all the stress out of my system” Liam said, looking at the ground and running his hands through his hair. I couldn’t help the feeling of uselessness coming over me. What was I expecting to get out of last night? A proposal and a happily ever after? He used me, yes but I can’t expect more than what it was from a drunken hook up. I squeezed my eyes shut in frustration, willing the thoughts to leave my mind.
I opened my eyes again just in time to see him slowly look up at me. Except this time neither of us looked away. We stared at each other for a few moments; no matter how bad I tried I just couldn’t look away. A warm feeling erupted in my stomach and spread throughout my body. Within a split second he was dragged out of the shop and disappeared, bringing me back to reality.
“Is it just that, Miss?” The shop attendant asked me as she took the CD from my hands. Chloe gave me an odd look, having seen the intensely awkward moment with him.

Work was slow this evening. I guess people had better things to do than to buy groceries from an overpriced supermarket. All I want to be doing right now is sitting at home in sweatpants and watching reruns of Friends. I only had an hour and a half left of standing behind a register, waiting for a customer to come along and entertain me.
When knock off time finally rolled around I took solace in the embrace of my couch and fell asleep while waiting for Saint Kate to come home.
