RK900 knocked softly on the door once, twice, three times. No one answered. The android knocked again, slightly harder. Again, no answer. RK900 walked around the side of the apartment and peered into a window. He saw Detective Reed either passed out or asleep on the couch inside. Two options appeared in the corner of RK900's vision:

X - Break in through the window
O - Wait for Detective Reed to wake up

The android chose X. He walked backwards, and ran at the window. He kicked the glass with his legs, and went flying through the window. He landed - more like fell - clumsily on the tiled floor. He ran a quick diagnostic scan of himself and the room to make sure he wasn't injured. He got up and swept the glass into a pile, he would pick it up later. He looked across the room and made his way towards the detective. Halfway across the room, a slender white and ginger tabby cat leapt onto his uniform. He picked her up, scratched the cat behind her ears, and put her back on the floor.

He resumed walking towards Detective Reed, and scanned him. There was a steady heartbeat, quiet snores, and no sign of alcohol or drug use. He was only asleep. The android gazed at the detective for a moment, realizing that the human lying on the leather couch was one of considerable beaut- The android realized what he was thinking. Those thoughts were reserved for humans and deviants, both of which RK900 was not. Even so, he couldn't help but feel the thirium rush to his cheeks. RK900 tried to wave off these software glitches - he was only a prototype -  and resume what he came here to do.

The android remembered what Connor told him to do if the detective was out cold or asleep. He slapped the side of the detective's face weakly; he didn't know how much pain humans could take yet, and he didn't want to leave a bruise. Detective Reed was unresponsive. He recalled once more what Connor taught him.

"Wake up, Detective!" He shouted as he was about to slap him much, much harder than before. Detective Reed's eyes opened quickly, and caught the android's moving arm mid-air. "What," the detective said, his voice rough around the edges, "do you think you're doing, in my house?" RK900 pulled his hand away. "I'm retrieving you. You weren't at the station, and I was told I could find you at this apartment." Detective Reed's gaze fell on the android's LED, then his serial code on the jacket.

"You're an android," he commented. The word "android" fell from his mouth like it was poisonous. RK900 knew the detective did not particularly like androids. "I am an android, and I am also your partner," RK900 replied. "My name is RK900, although I also respond to the name Conan."
"Well then, Conan," said Detective Reed, "what's our case?" "We'll receive all the details at the station, but so far, I've been informed that it's another android murder." The detective got up off the couch, and bent over to pick up the cat. He held her gingerly, and spoke softly to her. "Hey there, Riley, is this tin can bothering you? Don't worry, he'll leave soon."

This was followed by the detective spouting noises at the cat, or 'Riley', as he called her. Conan was bewildered by this interaction. He noted that humans reserved a special frequency and language specially for small animals or pets. "Ahem," Conan said. "Should we be going?"

"Sure, sure," Detective Reed replied. "Let me get ready." Conan stepped aside while the detective went into another room to change clothes. After a few moments, Conan had the sudden, strange urge to see the detective without clothes on. Conan shook his head, trying to come back to his senses. Meanwhile, Detective Reed looked through the crack in the doorway to observe Conan. 'Sure, it's an android,' he thought, 'but damn.'  The detective shivered at the thought of getting close to Conan.
'Conan's an android, and I'm a human. Even if it was actually attractive, I still wouldn't like it.'  The detective was honestly trying his best to conceal what he really felt, even if it entirely contradicted his current thoughts. 'I'll just finished getting dressed, then I'll get the hell out of here.'

Eventually, the detective came out of the room. "Alright, toaster," he spoke. "Are we going, or are you going to stand there all day?" Conan turned towards Detective Reed. "I'm coming, Detective." Conan opened the door for him. Detective Reed looked at him strangely. "Gavin," he said. "What?" Conan replied. "My name is Gavin," said the Detective. "It's only fair for you to call me Gavin if I call you Conan, since it sounds like 'Conan' is your informal name."
"Alright then, Gavin." They both stepped through the doorway and out to the driveway, where Gavin's car was parked. Gavin took the driver seat while Conan sat in the passenger seat. Gavin pulled out of the driveway, and drove towards the Chicago Police Station.
