Mark this time put his hand up and lean forward, camera in hand facing me still.
And in the faintest of words I heard "Can you hear me?"

My tears started pouring down even more.
'I can hear you' I sign to him.
He gave me a smile as he began to tear up. I hopped of the doctors bed and gave him a hug.
I couldn't have done it with out the help of him.

After the doctor told me everything I needed to know about the implant and how to care for it. I watched as he signed and spoke, trying to get used to the new sounds of the world.
The small murmurs of the hospital made me excited to meet the love of my life.

--

Mark showed me out of the hospital camera pointing while talking and signing to me. I put two and two together realizing that the words he said was the ones he spoke.

"'-you know?"' Mark finished as he opened his ice cream..barrel.. haunted house van.

I sat in the back, joined by Mark with him smiling brightly at me.

"'So, how do you feel?"'

I nodded and smiled at him, 'Great. I feel-'
Mark shook his head.
'"Tell me with your voice this time.'"

I open my mouth, hesitant about how I should say it.. "Grate.." The hairs on my body stood up.
That's my voice?

"Grrrate" I say again but this time louder so I could hear it better.
It made me smile and laugh a small bit but it made me want to talk more.

I pulled my phone out and pointed at Jackaboi's name.

'how do you say his name?' I asked Mark.
Mark nodded smiling. "Seán."
"Shhhawn"

I went to the next contact. Blueboi
"Ethan" Mark said smiling.
"Ethen"

Mark laughed and the fun I was having, going through names and repeating everything he says.

While Mark drove me back home he asked me a tough question..
"Did you want to hear Seán?"
It took me a few to process what he said, so he signed it to me.

'yeah, that was the point of this right?'

He shook his head laughing. 'I mean, now. Did you want to hear him?'
I bit my lip. Should I? I should get used to his voice before I surprise him at PAX.

I nodded to Mark and he smiled at me, parking in my driveway holding his hand out. "'let me see your phone.'"
Curiously, I handed him my phone. Mark unlocked it and scrolled through it, tapping on an icon and then gesturing to me to be quiet.

I was about to question it before I heard a ring coming from my phone. I looked down at it seeing the words Calling: Jackaboi...

My eyes widened and before I made a sound I put a hand over my mouth.

"Hello?" A scratchy thick voice answered.
My tears couldn't be held back.

"Hello...?"
I had to put another hand over my mouth to try not to answer to his voice.

"Must have been a butt dial then.." Seán stated before I heard beeps indicating he hung up.

I let it out after I knew it was okay. Taking a breather as I look up at Mark. He smiled softly at me handing me my phone back.

"'We'll see him soon and you can't won't have to keep it a secret for much longer.'" Mark said reassuring me.

I nod at him smiling back. 'Now I need to back for PAX.' I sign to him.
Mark nods.
'"I'll be by in the morning to pick you up. The plane leaves at 11am."'

I give him a thumbs up and hop out of the van.

I can't wait.

---

The morning was jam packed with stress. Mark slept in until 10 and rushed to pick me up.
We almost missed out flight due to the airport being an hour away.
However we made it and got to our destination without any setbacks.

Mark helped me with getting into my hotel room and after we got dinner, discussing the plan one final time.
After Mark and I decided to get some sleep before the panel tomorrow.

The panel were I revealed everything.

//Just so everything is clear
"This is talking"
'This is signing'
"'This is signing and talking."'
You can hear but just a small bit. You're not in a world of silence anymore but everything is kinda muffled. Like you're wearing a bad pair of noise cancelling headphones??

Also words and sound are new. If you've never been introduced to spoken words it's difficult to understand when someone is talking. That's why most of Mark's dialogue is done by signing and talking. It so you can get used to words and understand them.

Mikey Mae.

P.S. sorry if I talk so much about things like this but it's because I'm know so much about the deaf community and I wish there was so much more support. //
