Monogamy was not a concept known to werewolves. Males outnumbered females nearly five to one. None knew why daughters were harder to bring into the world.

Packs followed typical patterns. Females were able to accept or reject males in their family. Usually only one alpha male was allowed since they had the propensity to fight to the death. Some alpha females would not accept an alpha male at all, preferring only a beta and therefore never having to contend with another alpha for rule.

Which led to the current problem facing your kind. Alphas were becoming increasingly rare.

You knew as an alpha you had an obligation to bring more of your kind into the world, but you were in no hurry. Breeding was a chaotic affair and one you hoped to postpone for as long as physically possible.

Despite that, you narrowed your eyes on Jaebeom as these thoughts rushed through your mind. You considered turning him away, chasing him off, but part of you gravitated to him.

Sensing your turmoil, Jaebeom turned his head, meeting your eyes, and the spell was broken. Avoiding his gaze, you cleared your throat and hid your interest. Meanwhile, a knowing smirk tugged at Jaebeom's lips.

Glancing at the other boys around you, you had to admit it was a decent bunch. Jinyoung was your rock and a finer beta never existed. He was to be the advisor, the tie-breaker, and the one who always pursued the best interest of the family. You would confide in him and trust in his word, and most importantly, lean on him when you became too weak to carry the weight of responsibility on your own.

Jackson was a delta, the warrior, and his role was to keep the pack safe. From what you had heard and seen, he took this task seriously. And was very good at it. He would also stand up to you when it came to the defenses. If you ever put the pack in harm's way, he would fight you to hell and back until you changed your course.

Mark was undoubtedly a sigma. Where Jackson was the physical protector, Mark was the emotional. He would keep peace amongst the pack. Where all others failed, he would be there to pick up the pieces and put them back together. A shoulder to cry on, you mused.

And of course, Jaebeom, the alpha and your equal. Though you knew Jaebeom would spend every waking hour challenging you for dominance. His stubbornness rivaled your own. But everyone had a role to play and the alpha made the decisions and led the pack. The two of you would have to find a way to work together for the good of the family.

As the female of the pack, you would forge intimate bonds with each of them, but also serving as the glue that kept the pack intertwined as a whole. You would never neglect one for the sake of another or treat one better than the others. The mark of a good leader was her ability to balance, according to your mother.

Jinyoung's gentle voice snapped you from your reverie.

"I can sense you," Jinyoung murmured, brow furrowed as he began to feel soft caresses of your emotions and thoughts against his own. "Does that mean you accept me?"

"I accepted you before you even got here, Jinyoung," you told him sweetly.

He blushed and came closer, wrapping his arms around your waist. You smiled and closed your eyes in contentment when he tucked his face against your neck, breathing in your scent and pressing a chaste kiss to the base of your shoulder.

When he had finished, you returned the gesture. It was a sacred pact; to expose your neck to another in your weakest form. And at the throat, over the pulse, a wolf's scent was thickest and purest. You branded the taste of him in your mind forever, and so did he.

Your kiss was gentle, but filled with longing. Jinyoung groaned ever so slightly, but you heard it like music to your ears. As your connection flourished with every passing second, you could feel how he had dreamed of you. How he had spent nearly each night hoping the following day he could be with you again.
