The kitchen filled with a mouth-watering aroma. Whatever Jackson was cooking, it was going to be good.

You came to peek over his shoulder for the third time as he worked on the stir fry and received yet another scolding.

"Woman, it will be ready when it's ready," Jackson chided playfully, pecking a swift kiss on the corner of your mouth.

"I should taste it," you joked, inching closer to the stove. "To make sure it's delicious for werewolf consumption."

Jackson wrapped an arm around your waist and grabbed a handful of your butt with his broad hand. "Get your fine ass outta here before I spank it."

You giggled, but quickly left the kitchen.

Less than a minute later, Jaebeom and Jinyoung stepped through the back door, the latter warning of impending rainfall. You weren't surprised. There was a certain scent in the air when storms came.

Meanwhile, the alpha drifted toward Jackson, grumbling, "You little shit."

Jackson whipped around, flashing that signature grin, and taunted, "Wanna kiss me so you can taste her?"

Jaebeom swung at his head and only because of Jackson's reflexes did he narrowly miss. Very, very narrowly.

Having just finished hugging Jinyoung in welcome, you turned toward the kitchen and called, "Jackson, must you antagonize him?"

Jackson bobbed his head. "Yes, I must."

Jaebeom skulked away, irritation seething beneath the surface.

"It's ready!" Jackson called and Mark practically soared from his spot on the sofa.

No matter the events of the day, dinner was always eaten together and you found it was becoming one of your favorite pastimes. Everyone ate until bellies were full and laughter echoed against the walls. No topic was off limits and healthy - though usually fiery - debates were the norm.

After plates were scraped clean, conversation continued and you felt yourself grow somber as you glanced around the table. You were already committed to this family and you loved your wolf boys, but you were reminded of your responsibilities.

At the end of the table, Jaebeom was the only one to notice the darkness that had crept over your face and he sharply brought dinnertime to an end. And he was the only of your wolf boys that wasn't surprised when you expressed your intention to take some time outside by yourself.

The moon was hidden behind clouds and the wind coursed through your fur. You lay on your belly in the small clearing just beyond the house, eyes on the fleeting glimpses of stars in the canopy of trees. Your long legs stretched before you, paws overlapped.

From time to time a she-wolf just needed some peace and quiet, a moment to contemplate the future. You would have preferred to do so while basking in the glow of the moon, but she was beyond your sight and made you feel alone.

Sensing your solitude, the alpha appeared from the trees. He had been watching over you like the sternest of bodyguards, but was well aware of your need for space. Now that he could feel your loneliness, he stepped in.

You hardly reacted when the ebony wolf plopped down alongside you, sidling as close as physically possible. Your coats were a clash of black and gold.

Jaebeom didn't hesitate to nuzzle your cheek with his nose, then rubbed over your ear with his jaw. You blinked contentedly at his gestures, knowing he must have sensed your worries.

For a few quiet moments, you basked calmly in his company. Jaebeom continued his affection, trying to drive away the melancholy he could feel radiating from you. Finally you let go a heavy sigh and rested your head on his paw.
