14 - Enlightened Now

Anya's POV

The instant rejection knocked all the courage out of me as I frowned.

"Don't get any ideas. My house is absolutely off limits." Nola stated as she focused on driving.

I had a feeling she wasn't gone say yes, but shit!

I searched through my thoughts and recalled what Jess had told me as I sucked my teeth.

"We did it at school on your terms, which almost got us caught might I add. But when I wanna do something on my terms, is'a automatic no? Seriously?"

She didn't say anything for a minute until she said, "But we didn't get caught."

"It still almost happened! It was risky, and you knew it! I told you that I didn't want to, but you said to trust you, so I did! And you lied to me!" I snapped at her, and Nola was taken aback.

"You decided last time, now it's my turn." I stated, without any remorse.

Nola stared at me baffled for a while longer before regaining her usual demeanor.

"And you're sure that it's my house?" She asked.

I nodded determinedly and Nola furrowed her brows at me. "Look at you growing some balls. Usually, you can barely get a word out. What'd you do? Practice what you were going to say?"

I actually did, but you don't need to know that.

She eventually let out a long sigh and looked at me, "What time is it?"

"5:30." I answered.

"Let's go then." She said, turning on her turn signal.

"To your place?" I questioned.

"Shut up, before I change my mind." She warned me, and I smiled to myself as she took a U-turn.

"Let's go to McDonald's though. I'm starving." I said and she scoffed, "You're pushing it."

-- after eating...

I don't know why, but Nola made sure we washed our mouths out before we left.

We pulled up to a expensive apartment complex and honestly, I didn't expect less from her.

She drives a Mercedes-Benz!

We got out of her car and she locked it.

We took a elevator to the 14th floor, and I followed her down the hallway.

Nola froze all of a sudden and she looked at me frantically. "Wait out here for a sec!"

"Huh?" I questioned but she rushed off and vanished behind a door, shutting it behind her.

I read the door number and it was 138.

A bunch of noise followed soon after, scaring me but once it stopped, the door opened.

"...Alright. You can come in now." Nola said, breathing quite unevenly.

"Okay..." I said, laughing as I stepped forward.

I guess she didn't clean up.

My eyes lit up as I walked inside her apartment.

She didn't have a bunch of furniture, but every piece that she had looked expensive as hell.

The kitchen looked like it belonged to a chef.

"Holy shit..." I whispered lowly, "This must be what you spend the money you make on Instagram."
