The Only Reason || Calum Hood

Chapter 27

The next day just dragged on, school was long and everything just seemed boring.

I got all these questions, most the same; "are you feeling better?" or "how's you and Calum?" all of those questions just made me miss them all more.

After school had finished, I just went home, putting on a random album, eating ice-cream and watching Finding Nemo.

I still remember the first date Calum took me out on, it had to be one of the best nights of my life. It was just so perfect. My thoughts suddenly get disrupted when a loud knock comes from my door. I get up and place my tub of ice-cream down. I open the door and come face to face with a smiling Liz.

"Hey Liz!" I greet and let her in.

"Hi, Aleah. As you know, the boys get back tomorrow night." She says and I nod my head, she continues. "I was wondering if you wanted to help me with a welcome home party kinda thing?" She asks and I nod my head and smile.

"Sounds great Liz!" I smile and she nods her head.

"Great! Come over anytime tonight to help out." She smiles and tells me all of the information and then leaves. I quickly head upstairs to my room to get changed and to pack a bag of small things that I could bring to help out.

I pack my small bag with various things and I put on a premade pizza for a quick dinner since my parents weren't home.

After frantically trying not to burn myself on the oven and trying not to burn it, my phone goes of.

"Hello?" I ask and I hear a quiet sob.

"Um, hello?" I ask again, still, nothing but a small quiet sob.

"Are you ok?" I ask and the small sob becomes louder and more violent. I look at the private number and sigh.

"Who the hell are you?"

"M-m-ichael." He sobs and I drop my slice of pizza.

"Michael?! Are you ok, jesus, what's happened?" I ask and he sobs again.

"Michael, answer me."

"It's L-luke." He sobs and my eyes widen.

"What's happened?" I ask, getting worried.

"He's not ok. I can defiantly say he's not okay." Michael conitnues to sob.

"Michael. What's happened to Luke?" I ask and he takes a deep breath.

"Someone's shot him. We where at Maccas, this guy, he just shot him. I saw it, I could'nt even do anything. Then I saw it, blood running down his leg from his stomach and his face all pale and I don't know Aleah, I'm so scared." Michael says and I feel a warm tear run down my face.

"Where are you guys?" I ask and I hear someone burst into tears in the background.

"Sydney hospital. We weren't supposed to say, but we where all coming home tonight to surprise you." He says and I begin to cry.

"I'll be right there." I say and Michael says goodbye and I hang up, quickly grabing my keys and jumping into my small car and starting up the engine. I speed through the streets of Sydney to the hospital, not even bothered about the stream of tears running down my face. I quickly park my car and rush into the ER and I spot all of my friends. I rush over to them and I'm greeted by Calum's arms.

"I've missed you so much." He says into the top of my head and I smile.

"You too." I smile up at him and he lets go and holds my hand.

I say hello to everyone, receiving giant hugs from each of them and sad eyes, covered by warm, fake smiles.

I then see Rachel sitting down in on of the small equally alined plastic seats, sobbing. I look at Calum who shakes his head.

"She's not okay right now." Calum whispers and I nod.

I sit down and wait with the others.

"Does Liz know?" I ask and Ash nods.

"She's waiting outside his room. I hope she's okay, she was a bit of a mess before." Michael says and I nod.

After about what seemed like 10 hours, but what was actually only three, a tired looking doctor comes out.

"I have some news." He says and we all listen carefully.

"He's going to be fine." We all burst into an emotional fit of happy tears. I see Rachel look up and smile.

"Thank you doctor." She says and he nods.

"You can go in and visit him, but be very quiet." He says and we nod and he walks away.

"Should we let Liz see him first?" Michael asks and everyone nods. "Go and see him Rach." Michael says and she nods and quickly hugs him. She walks breifly through the doors and to the ER.

Ten minutes later, Liz and Rachel walks out.

"You can go in and see him, he's a tad grumpy though." Liz laughs and sits down. We all get up and walk into the small room.

I see Luke lying there, eyes closed and a painfull look on his face.

"Hey." Calum says quietly and Luke opens his eyes.

"Oh, hey guys." He smiles and his eyes land on me.

"Hey Aleah." He smiles and I wave.

"You can come over here and hug me, I'm not a piece of glass." He laughs and I smile and hug him quickly.

"I missed ya Lucas." I smirk and he raises an eyebrow.

"I'm not even gonna ask you to stop calling me that 'cause I know you won't." We both laugh and we all just stay in the small hospital room, talking.

And in that moment, I knew my life was perfect.
