Wednesday 17th November 1920
Ajax, Toronto, CanadaAs I'd previously mentioned last month regarding the band's tour, they did in fact go on tour but not anywhere outside Canada and the US just yet, which I think is quite a relief because I don't think I'd cope with being overseas - I mean I survived France during the war, but that was only because Deryck was deployed there along with the others. Currently, there's only a few days (about two or three) left and then we can all go home finally. The first few days of tour went okay from my perspective at least, because instead of me needing to inform the fans the backstory behind Deryck's shell shock and deafness, he actually told them himself which takes the weight of needing to speak for him off of my shoulders, not that I mind needing to speak for him if need be; like when the officer of the SS Minnedosa started to talk to him and he didn't know that Deryck was unable to hear what he was saying and I had to intervene and let the officer aware of the situation. Now, I don't mean me speaking for him as if he is mute, I just mean to inform people of his situation if need be.
Saturday 20th November 1920...
We're now back home which I'm sure everyone is glad for, especially myself because I don't want to sound whiny but I did find myself rather bored backstage as the guys performed, but for the most part I ended up watching them on the sidelines so at least that was something entertaining. Today, because we're all back from tour I don't think it'll be a overly-productive day like usual, because I along with the others is tired from being on the road for a few weeks. Whilst on tour, Deryck has written new songs, one of which is titled "Some Say" Not quite sure the meaning behind it yet, I guess I'll find out once I hear what it sounds like when it's being recorded, maybe some time tomorrow or in the next few days so until then I'll just have to wait and see. Since we're a month and fourteen days away from entering 1921, this year has been alright so far - well, despite the fact that the Wets are still whinging about abolishing Prohibition, other than that I've actually quite enjoyed this year along with the last two years, not quite fond of the years 1912, 1914, 1916, and 1917 for fairly obvious reasons. I can remember the day that Deryck had enlisted in the Canadian Corps, because it'll be four years tomorrow since he'd joined.
FOUR YEARS EARLIER (Tuesday 21st November 1916)...
We're now two years into The Great War, so far a lot of casualties have occurred because it's been three days since the Battle of the Somme in France ended on the 18th, so that's the wounded and dead coming back home from the frontline. Deryck had signed up to the Canadian Corps on Sunday, so now we're just waiting for the letter to arrive to say that he's been recruited by the Corps and help them in any battles that may arise any time soon. Luckily, a few hours later his letter of recruitment arrived and informed him that he has been recruited by the Corps, it also mentions that he'll be deployed in a place called Nord-Pas-de-Calais in France at a location called Vimy Ridge and he'll be there for six months to train for the battle that's occurring on Easter Monday of next year, 9th April 1917. Furthermore, it mentions that if he should be injured or killed it would be ideal for me to go with him, so I can be contacted quicker and it would save one of the messengers from needing to travel from France to Canada to tell me the devastating news of the inevitable, we will be living with the rest of the troops at the Corps Headquarters but when they're either training or in battle, the soldiers will be sleeping rather rough in the trenches unfortunately. We have to leave for Nord-Pas-de-Calais on Friday and we will be arriving by ship on 30th November, now all we have to do is find out which ship is taking us there in the first place, I will have to look at the timetables to know. The ship that will be taking us to Nord-Pas-de-Calais is the Canadian Pacific Liner, RMS Empress of Russia who will be arriving in Lake Ontario on Friday to take us on the week long voyage to France.
BACK TO PRESENT DAY (Saturday 20th November 1920)...
So, that will be four years tomorrow since Deryck joined the Canadian Corps to help them with the Battle of Vimy Ridge a year later, so I hope to see you all at some point in the new year, 1921. Hopefully us Drys can keep those Wets away from trying to get rid of Prohibition.
Some say we're never meant to grow up
I'm sure they never knew enough
I know the pressures won't go away
It's too lateFind out the difference somehow
It's too late to even have faith
Don't think things will ever change
You must be dreamingThink before you make up your mind
You don't seem to realize
I can do this on my own
And if I fall I'll take it all
It's so easy after allBelieve me 'cause now's the time to try
Don't wait, the chance will pass you by
Time's up to figure it out
You can't say it's too lateSeems like everything we knew
Turned out were never even true
Don't trust, things will never change
You must be dreamingThink before you make up your mind
You don't seem to realize
I can do this on my own
And if I fall I'll take it all
It's so easy after allSome say we're better off without
Knowing what life is all about
I'm sure they'll never realize the way
It's too lateSomehow it's different everyday
In some ways it never fades away
Seems like it's never gonna change
I must be dreamingThink before you make up your mind
You don't seem to realize
I can do this on my own
Think before you make up your mind
You don't seem to realize
I can do this on my own
And if I fall I'll take it all
It's so easy after allBelieve me, it's alright
It's so easy after all
Believe me, it's alright
It's so easy after all
