Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

A/N omg im about to cry just writing this. the power this poem has over me is scary and its all because of S. E. Hinton she destroyed me with this in the outsiders and in my opinion this was one of the most inportant scenes in the whole book, along with the ending. when Ponyboy reads this and think of what Johnny wrote him and looks out at the sunrise like im not crying you are :'( this poem had me balling my eyes out when i first read it. ive memorized this poem bc of this

Ps: if you havent read the outsiders i definatley recomend it and then watch the movie!!! francis ford coppola directed it (hes one of the best) and didectly worked with Hinton (the author) to make the movie what she imagined and any changes from the book to the movie were run by Hinton first also the cast is freaking amazing (patrick swayze, emilio estevez, matt dillon, tom cruise, tom waits, ralph macchio, rob lowe, etc). basically this movie is everything people dream about when hoping for the movie adaption it follows the storyline to a t and all the characters are perfectly cast the details are there watch it omg
