Hov watched aimlessly as cars passed by. Even though his focus was on the cars out in the street, his mental focus was elsewhere.

He was currently at Meek's mother, Monica's house with the rest of his family and close friends.

He was still in disbelief. It was hard to believe that his best friend was gone, and never coming back.

In his 29 years of living, he have lost a lot of people — but never no one this close. Meek wasn't his blood brother, but it felt like it. They had known one another for years, had grown up together, and shared just about everything.

It was true that one day you're here, and the next you're gone. That saying was finally hitting him. He had talked to Meek a few hours before he was killed, and now it felt like a dream.

"You need anything?" He heard someone say. Knowing the voice instantly, he looked towards Meek's mother, Monica who had stepped outside onto the porch to join him.

"I'm good." He mumbled.

"You sure baby? It's food in the house. Everybody ate except you."

He looked down at his feet and tucked the stranded shoelace inside his shoe. He didn't understand how Monica seemed perfectly fine. He expected her to be bawling her eyes out, but surprisingly she was the strongest one out of everyone.

"I'll take sum' to go," he said, "Ain' got no appetite right now."

"I feel you." She said, putting the black and mild between her lips while lighting it.

Things became quiet between the two as they watched the cars pass by. Hov let out a sigh and sat back in the uncomfortable chair.

"Here." Monica said. He looked at the black and mild she tried handing him and shook his head, "Dang, that's a surprise."

He rubbed his face, "My bad mama. My girl got me on sum' stupid ass detox diet wit' her. We got 10 more days left so I'll start back smoking then."

Monica laughed, "This the first time I've heard of you going all out for a female. You was with Rose for some years and was never like this."

"Guess different people bring out different sides of you."

Monica sighed, "That's so true.."

Things became peacefully quiet again until Hov could hear Monica sniffing. He tried not to look her way because he knew it would kill him to see her crying.

But he couldn't help but to pull her into a hug and let her cry on his chest.

"I'm sorry mama, it's my fault." He said, clinching his jaw just thinking about the way Meek lost his life.

Two bullets to the chest, one to the head. It seemed as if he could picture the scene in his mind and that's what fucked with him the most.

"I'ma get mine." He added, saying more to himself.

It was no one but Cory and everyone knew that. Cory's signature style of killing was always two to one. No one else had the power he does to approach Meek and kill him from that close of range.

Monica wiped her eyes and looked at Hov — her other son. He was now all that she had so she felt she needed to be close to him.

"It's not your fault Shawn. Shit happens, and I already know you're plotting but I want you to stop. Meek's death will be an eye opener to the community and hopefully to you as well that this lifestyle isn't okay. People are losing their lives too early over a gang."
