The President of the United States rested comfortably at the Resolute Desk in his Oval Office. His loosened tie, rolled up shirt sleeves, and the tuxedo tossed on one of the lily white couches indicated an air of relaxation. His head rested on his intertwined hands, and, slowly, the tranquil mood gave way to grim silence. His thoughts, those filled with the laughter of the press corps and his distinguished guests, began to wane away. The President's mind was increasingly filled with concern over the success of the nearly five year long military operation that was to conclude today – Operation Restoring Homeland Freedom.

Due to the immense significance of the campaign, the President had asked the FBI director to report on the success or failure of today's action only after she herself had personally visited the battleground and confirmed her ground commanders' analyses. The director was due to return from Manhattan, in an hour or so, by helicopter. An official government motorcade returning from a city that had been placed under a state of emergency due to an ongoing terrorist threat would have raised questions, even among the normally accommodating news organizations. Or, worse, a delusional citizen journalist would have started a maelstrom online by posting a grainy video of the SUV train under a probable title of 'Conspiracy?!'. There was no burden on those citizens of the necessity of facts or evidence, a levity that disgusted the President.

He stood, stretching and spreading out his arms before settling his hands heavily on the wooden surface. Glancing towards the open door on his right, he called out to his aide-de-camp.

His secretary appeared in the open space, responding, "Yes, Mr. President?"

"The Director will be here shortly. Until then, please keep the door closed."

"Of course Mr. President." Moments later, with the main entryway to the outside world closed, the President sat down and reached towards the safe that had been newly installed under his administration underneath the historic desk. Six digits – the date of his first political success – were punched in, and the metallic door buzzed before slightly opening. The President pulled out a personal laptop and then realized the charger had been left in the Jackson Bedroom.

"Damn it." The President grimaced as the home screen flickered on, with the computer being charged to 89%. Opening up a new document, he stared at the white screen and the blinking vertical line. He then began to type, hesitantly at first:

A Memoir

"Was that too pretentious? Perhaps if I specified..." The President's thoughts, spoken aloud, reworked the title:

Seven Years of a Presidency: A Memoir

"Definitely sounds better. Now, to the meat of the story." Swirling and flickering, the President's thoughts began to merge as his fingers began to type away:

"Today, I, the President of the United States, ordered the FBI Director to kill American citizens on U.S. soil. My actions should warrant my impeachment and conviction. I write this memoir as a defense of my actions, as a vindication that what I have decided over seven years in this office has ensured that this country survives and is not slit asunder.

Let me be clear. The citizens killed today lost that privilege, albeit unofficially, when they chose to take up arms against the United States government. The sacred oath that was sworn before officially becoming citizens was violated, time and again, when these so-called soldiers and their ilk decided to protest in a time of national crisis, a time of war. I will not have my country pander to rebels when we face a near-constant threat of suicide bombings from coast to coast by Daesh-inspired lone wolves.

Before I delve into the beginning of this bloody mess, let me make clear that I am not the sole culprit in the actions taken today and over five years. The FBI and the new Home Guard are the vanguard of the bloodshed. The NSA ensures that political blackmail is a cherished tool that I frequently use to control the more, let's say, fearless members of the branches, from the majority of the Supreme Court to the three independents who initially were against the bill defunding the National Guard. The rest of Congress, my Cabinet, and the Vice President all supported my decision to declare a state of war against Daesh and any similar terrorist elements.
