Everyone watched with a bated breath as Voldemort seemed to get the upper hand in the duel. They watched as the green magic got closer and closer to Harry. Then Harry closed his eyes for a moment and Voldemort laughed, likely thinking that Harry was surrendering.

No one dared to breathe as the magic came closer to him. Then Harry opened his eyes and his magic started pushing back.

Everyone, death eaters and students alike, saw how Voldemort believed that Harry couldn't possibly win. But as they watched, some with horror (death eaters) and some with joy (students), Harry's magic crept closer and closer to Voldemort. Until finally, Harry's magic trumped Voldemort's and Voldemort turned to ash.

Harry's POV:

'I did it! I finally did it!'

A single tear rolled down his cheek.

'Mum, dad, he's gone!'

'He's finally gone'

He felt relief and happiness overwhelm him.

Exhaustion wanted to set in but he couldn't sleep just yet.

'He can't hurt anyone anymore.'

He smiled.

He felt a massive weight lift from his shoulders.

Peace.

Another tear fell down.

He couldn't believe it.

He couldn't believe that he's never coming back.

'He's just been there for so long.'

He didn't realized how heavily the constant threat of the man had weighed on him, until he wasn't there any longer.

He sighed as every emotion he'd been holding back finally hit, as the adrenaline abruptly wore off.

Exhaustion, hysteria, shock, happiness.

He had to push through it.

He schooled his face to only show shock and disbelief, hiding away his other emotions for now.

Then he turned to the crowd that was watching.

Dumbledore's POV:

From the remains of one of the shorter tower's windows, I watch Harry defeat Voldemort.

It had never been my intention to allow Harry to live after he did his duty of ridding the world of Tom. It should have taken care of itself, but some things can't be helped, when the boy had too much luck on his hands. I can't just let the boy go and become a dark lord with all of that power.

It is for the greater good of humanity that the boy will be locked up in Azkaban.

Harry did cast unforgivables after all.

He's already on the path of darkness. I must deter him. Which is why, with a heavy heart, I apparate up to my office and floo call the Aurors.

'It is for the greater good....'

Harry's POV:

He made his way through the great hall.

He saw families mourning all around him.
