-Three years later-

Harry's POV:

He allowed the sadness come briefly....

He wished that the spell to mend -reparo- could fix this.

He wished that he could obliviate himself and pretend that none of it ever happened.

He wished that he could make it all disappear with a simple Evanesco.

He wished he had thick skin like dragons and trolls did.

Maybe then he could feel less weak.

He sighed.

'I can't fix this. The damage has been done.'

'Everyone that once said they cared, have now turned a blind eye.'

'No one has done anything to help me. No one has even attempted to lift a single finger to.'

'I guess I just have to help myself, because I only have myself that I can rely on. Only myself that I can fall back on.'

'I just have to trust that I can do what has to be done.'

If he wanted it done right, he would have to save himself.

For the last three years, more memories had steadily been coming back to him.

Dumbledore had been obliviating him ever since he entered Hogwarts.

Ron and Hermione were never his friends.

Dumbledore had paid them to be. Paid them to be his little spies for all those years, and he wouldn't forget.

Sometimes he wanted to forget everything that man had put him through.

Sometimes he couldn't close his eyes because he saw the bodies.

He watched everyone he had loved lay dead on the floor, and he also watched those who he had used to love -who had eventually betrayed him- mourn over their losses.

Sometimes he couldn't rest because he saw them get struck down again and again.

He tried to lock his emotions far, far away, many times, but it just never worked and he wished he knew why.

Sometimes the best that he could do was pretend to be apathetic.

He invented a character that he would pretend to be a lot of the time, to help him get through it, while he worked out a way to escape.

He called it Raen.

Raen was apathetic and nearly immune to the cruel world. He had a sharp tongue and was honest, but also cunning. He thought logically, but sought most to protect himself. He was mysterious but also didn't have anything to hide. He would fight to the death to protect those he loved. He was strong and powerful, but also humble. He was a dark grey wizard when it came to his magic. He loved to read and sometimes write, and he had a pet snake and cat. He loved literature and poems and the small pleasures of life. He was the opposite of everyone he hated in every way.

Sometimes to get through it he became the man that he wanted to be.

When he was too angry to be Raen, he became Kylven.
