jennie meets a new boy that causes her world to tilt on its axis. his name is jongin, he has a pretty smile and bright eyes, and when he kisses jennie, jennie doesn't feel so guilty about kissing him back.

"i think lisa likes you," jongin whispers as jennie comes back from grabbing a drink in the kitchen. she brought a water bottle for herself and jongin, but lisa gets a can of black drink instead. her eyes were bright as she thanked the older girl, her fingers curling around jennie's. right now, she's too busy shooting at buttons on a controller to notice that jongin and jennie are talking about her.

"likes me?" jennie asks. she sits back on the couch, her eyes falling to lisa. "nah," jennie says as lisa turns around, almost as if sensing that jennie is staring at her. her lips raise into a wide grin, her eyes shining,
but then she glances at jongin, quickly turning back to the game with a frown. "she doesn't like me." she loves me.

"hmm," jongin hums, taking a drink of water. "it sure looks like it sometimes." jongin frowns. "i just don't want to get in the way of anything here."

jennie grins, her fingers playing with the hair at the nape of jongin's neck. he leans forward quickly pecking on jennie's lips. "there's nothing. me and lisa aren't anything."

and jongin smiles, cuddling into jennie's side, and he doesn't even know that jennie is lying, just a little bit.

"are you ashamed of us, unnie?" lisa asks as soon as jongin leaves.

jennie looks up in surprise.
"ashamed of what?"

"ashamed of us," lisa repeats. she frowns, "or i mean, ashamed of what we had?"

jennie finds herself scowling, shaking her head as she starts to pick up the mess that was created.

"don't read too much into things lisa. you know what we had. don't make it something it wasn't."

lisa narrows her eyes. jennie notices that lisa has been looking sick lately, her face thinning out more and more. there's two dark circles around her eyes, making her face appear to be sinking in. "i could tell jongin."

jennie shrugs, cleaning the table. "then tell him."

"what does he have that i don't?"

jennie sighs, setting an empty bottle down. "lisa." she warns. "drop it."

"no," lisa pushes. she comes to stand next to jennie. "what's so great about him, huh? i thought you didn't do relationships, so why him? huh, unnie? what does he have."

"because he's good and pure and nice and he's everything i'm not." jennie says forcefully. "now drop it."

lisa blinks back, physically coiling away from jennie. her fingers run over her thin and delicate wrist, her eyes lost. "i was good and pure too."

jennie feels that guilt close up on her throat. "lisa, that's not what i mean--"

lisa looks up, her smile sad. "it's true. i was." she sighs, shaking her head. "i still love you unnie, you know that right?"

jennie swallows harshly. "i know."

lisa closes her eyes, her fingers circling around her own wrist. "when did things get so complicated?"

she wants to reach out to lisa, but she's not sure how to do it without burning the poor girl. "i don't know."
