{ The feels.... Chello broke me... I BROKE ME}
~Gajeel’s POV~
I pulled away after only a few short moments, hesitantly removing my lips from hers. I knew it was stupid, but I couldn’t stop myself after she had said she loved me. She loves me, and she even wants to marry me. I should have been overjoyed at the thought, but instead I stood up.
“We shouldn’t do this,” I said, trying not to look at her shocked face.
“But I thought—“
“I feel the same way,” I admitted, “but that’s why this needs to stop. You’re a noble.”
“So?” She countered, standing to face me. “Gajeel, I don’t care about that. I love you. I don’t care about titles.”
“But I do,” I frowned. “I can’t give you everything you need. Hell, I can barely take care of myself, let alone another person. At least if you’re with another noble you will be taken care of in the way you deserve. That’s something I’ll never be able to do for you.”
“Money isn’t important,” she snapped. “I’ll get a job. Maybe at Mira’s—“
“No,” I said. “You have to marry the man your father wants. Who knows, maybe he’s even better-looking than me.” I tried to smirk, but it ended up being a slight twitch of my lips.
“I want to be with you,” she told me, tears shining brightly in her eyes.
“We should have never done this,” I sighed. “I knew writing those letters would only cause trouble, but I was an idiot and made a mistake.”
“So, you wish you hadn’t ever written to me?”
“Yes,” I lied. “If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have to hurt you like this. I never imagined that—“
“That what?” She snapped. “That you’d fall in love with me?!”
“That you’d fall in love with me.”
“If you love me, that’s all that matters,” she smiled, putting her hands on my face.
“I’m sure the man your father chose will love you, too,” I sighed, stepping away. “Besides, I’m leaving for America tomorrow morning.”
“What?” Her hazel eyes grew wide as she stared at me. “How long have you known?”
“A few days now.” It was another lie. I actually hadn’t decided until that moment to leave. I had heard of a ship that would be going the next morning, but hadn’t made any plans to get on it because of Levy. But now that she’s engaged, I need to leave. I’m just interfering in her life.
“When were you going to tell me?” She asked, quietly.
“Tomorrow morning,” I said, “in my last letter.”
“You’re lying,” Levy frowned. “You wouldn’t just leave without telling me.”
“How would you know?” I grumbled. “We’ve known each other for a week, Levy. Face it, this was never going to be what we wanted. Sorry, but I need to go. The ship leaves early, and I still have to pack.”
“Gajeel—“ I ignored her and turned away, walking out of the garden.
I wasn’t sure how I made it all the way home with the way my chest felt like it was going to explode, but I did. When I finally got there, I slammed the door and picked up my small bedside table, throwing it across the room.
“Damn,” I sighed, falling onto my bed. “She probably hates me now.” Although it sent searing pain through my chest, I knew it was for the best. Now she can move on and forget about me. At least she’ll get to have everything she deserves.
Dearest Gajeel,
I had to write you, one last time. I do not regret anything from last not, but I wish I had got to tell you good bye. I do hope America is everything you hope for. With this letter, I have sent some funds to help you start out. I wanted to help you with your dream. It was the least I could do for you, since you have given me the best week of my life.
I will miss you, and I will miss opening the neatly folded letters in my box. I'm sure Juvia will miss you too, and Mira. I wish you a safe trip Gajeel, and that you find what your looking for over there. I wish that all of your dreams come true, that you find a wife who loves you and gifts you a daughter. And I wish you a life without titles.
One last thing Gajeel.
I truly love you, and I give you my heart to take with you.
Levy
