Grace Kay's POV:

I'm not sure where the guards are taking me, but I know from Joel's urgent, scared voice it's somewhere I don't want to be. I fought at first, but they quickly overpowered me and I now have a busted lip and black eye for my troubles.

I was finally shoved into a room that had only a swinging light hanging from the ceiling and a wooden chair. I whirled around to try to make a run out the door but it was gone. Unblemished wall had replaced it.

Magical...  Just like I was apparently. The sudden memory of everyone at WinterJam becoming suddenly eager to hear Voicestealer, just at the sound of his very suspicious name. Magical... Also, a spell which probably was only directed at non-magic-users which would explain why it didn't affect me.

Uneasy, I settled myself into the chair to wait.

Several hours later...

I was pacing the room, trying to keep my body awake, when I suddenly turned around to find Voicestealer sitting inside the chair. He looked more comfortable than one should in a wooden chair, with one leg slung over the other and an arm draped over the armrest.

Taking a step back, I tried to sound calm as I asked, "Why am I here?" Voicestealer met my gaze and smirked, saying, "You have one question and you're asking a question you know the answer to?"

One question? Oof, but he is correct. I know I'm here because I'm magical and he wants some sort of 'apprentice.'

    One question.

My mind draws me back to the day my house burned down and he was there, so I blurted out, "Why did you kill my family and burn my house down?"

"Who said I burned your house down?" he asked causiouly but something in his gaze told me he did do it.

"Stop toying with me." I snarled. He laughs then stands up and says, "Because I knew your abilities and hoped to put you in a place where I can recruit you. It took longer than I meant since you ran from the foster care, but, here you are regardless."

    He killed my parents!

    He killed my brothers!

    He burned my house down!

"I won't do anything for you!" I hiss.

He laughs again, and it makes me angrier. When he says, "We'll see about that." I charge at him but he snaps and all goes dark.

A/N: So, this is kinda what I'm talking about with smaller details playing a bigger role. It was only maybe a sentence or two in chapter two about how Grace thinks he's the murderer, but now it is much bigger and that thought becomes a reality.

Definitely, don't want to mess with Voicestealer.
